Ron, did you modify/improve a HF lift? sure looks handy, just had to crawl around under my golf cart oiling the squeaking leaf springs.

Managed to scratch my itch. After a great deal of effort, got the disc on the new Massey, lot of cat 1 and 2 issues, sure do miss my hydraulic top link, which is on order, but I got it done. And had great fun cleaning the rust off the discs, bit muddy but it was fun.

I can't figure out why MF would attach an electric sensor to the top link pin. Ideas?

I would guess it to be your draft control sensor.
Unless yours is on the lower links as many are.

Buckeye, hope that finger heals quickly.

turns out I do have a sensor in my pin...
The draft system is electronic, the wire is going to a sensor in the top link bracket & pin.

the whole concept of draft somehow has eluded me. Like owning a boat and not being able to tie a decent knot.
Hopefully it is automatic on this new tractor. Sure disc'd nicely.
Dealer owner wanted to know where I found land dry enough to disc, he is moaning about the mud on his personal farm, and a lot more wet weather is coming in. Of course, not much to do at this time of year usually.
So both he and I were sitting at our computers...

More info Drew.

The instrumented top link pin tells your draft control whether your top link is in tension or compression.

Ron the new Garmin had a few hiccups - 1. It would not turn on the other night until I was half way home and 2. said a curve was 40ft ahead for 2 miles on a straight road and 3. would not download a software update. but I still like it enough and just exchanged it to see if the bugs are just on that one unit.

When you say metal ladder do you mean an aluminum ladder in a wood frame for the attic access stairs? like this:

Good evening to all!
Our internet has been down all day, cell phones were acting spotty, now they are totally not working. Apparently, Century Link (phone and internet) and Verizon have had major regional outages today. We disconnected our 30 year landline last year and went to cellphone only....I seriously feel handicapped without a phone right now.

Spent about half the day out on the tractor clearing the drive of a 2' deep snow drift that went across the drive for about 75'. It's surprising how packed hard the snow gets in a drift. The wind wa blowing at 45-55 mph last evening into the night. The pastures across from us had no snow on them (about 10 acres)... All the snow blew over to my drive! There was one 3' drift about 100' long accross the road, cleared that too.

They posted " blizzard warnings" for us tonight and tomorrow. We are expected to get 12-18" by the time it's over. I guess I'll be plowing a lot more.

Went to PT this afternoon, went ok, but started getting pain at the end of each exercise. The therapist wants me to stop when the pain starts. Was able to make it through about 3/4 of each one. Right now the knee is definitely talking to me and I don't think it's happy.

BEF, sorry to read that you sliced your finger. I hope it heals quickly.

RNG, nice pics of your trip. Impressive BMW's. Always liked the RT's. Question: what is that fellow in the pic doing over by those bushes? LOL!:D:eek:

Rip, nice to hear from you. Glad to hear the wifey is making up for lost time. Sorry to hear about the storm damage. Hopefully you'll get it fixed without too much trouble.

David, that stained concrete looks awsome! How long does the sealer last / repel water?

I just finished the last piece of apple/cheese pie...mmm, mmm. I have been good, only gained 3 pounds. Now I'll have to get rid of those cookies.....

Everyone have a nice evening. Prayers were sent

I'm thinking the only time it would be in compression is when you went over a terrance (on the down side and the) and the draft control would pick up - is this right?

In reality ...... yes Don. But ..... in reality you wouldn’t cross a terrace with a ground penetrating implement.

The instrumented top link pin is a load sensing pin that will change the “draft position” if the system senses you’re getting overloaded, by adjustments to the lower 3-point arms.

I mentioned both tension and compression because the pin, and associated circuitry has that ability.

Good evening all. 42F this morning, clear, light wind. Moderate wind until noon then pick and pretty gusty, sky stays clear, and high temp 56F, low temp tonight for today. Prepping for trip, did finish removing data from wife's old computer, and wiped the disk. Will recycle computer in STL on trip , will visit family and friends. Haven't got on scales yet, more food + less riding equal not good :ashamed::eek:
Don have metal stairs in garage, had wooden stairs (2 places) at old house for 30 years, did have some nuts come loose. When the moved the heating unit upstairs you can't get past the heating unit so need some stairs behind heating unit.
Ted sorry to hear about your cell issues. For the last year year ATT service has declined. most people have switched to Verizon. Did get old quick.
RNG thanks for check-in and pics Have fun.
My understanding is that draft control is to keep the implement at constant strain. If your disc, plow etc changes how much drag it is putting on tractor it changes implement depth to compensate.
Buckeye good luck with your cut and cameras.
prayers for all.

Right, I was thinking of when I was mowing and the top link was compressed to bend the mowers top brace and was thinking that maybe the draft position would have prevented that by automatically lifting the mower. The mower is not ground penetrating, so it's not designed to work like that, but would it prevent this from happening or can it even be engaged when not plowing?

Tried a new brick oven pizza place tonight. Pizza was good, but i predict they wont last a yr, as they don't know how to run a business.

Guys were supposed to pick up my donated honda pilot today, but called last night to rescheduled to tomorrow. Battery dead from sitting, jump started it, let it run awhile. Moved it near shed to put a charger on battery. Charged a little than said a cell was shorted. Hope it starts tomorrow.

The mild weather continues, each day taking us to double digits of Celsius. Apart from Christmas day, when we needed the kitchen range for cooking, only the woodburner in the living room has been seeing any action.

Yesterday as the light was starting to fade I went to bring around a few pieces of firewood and found this barn owl. Not a mark on him that I could see, but he weighed 3/4 of nothing, so I guess his energy reserves had all gone.

Ron, your lift looks a great way to get underneath without having to dig a pit
Do you trust the locking mechanism, or place extra chock props underneath for insurance ?

CWB, what lucky grandchildren you have. Someone is going to have some very happy hours/days/years teaching them how to shoot their new guns safely.
