So who is paying over $3.00 for unleaded regular?

$1.67 in Nixa Mo. Even here in Branson, which is noted for high fuel prices it is $1.86

Eastern Washington sstate, Just did drop the other day to $2.99. was around $3.40 for over a year or more. IIANM Washington is the 2nd hights gas tax in the USA. We don't have an income tax...yet, but sales tax at IIANM 7% Not sure if the gas is exempt from the sales tax or in addition to it.

Just before self serve showed up, the norm was a two bay service station. You would drive over the bell hose and the owner or mechanic would stop what he was doing, wipe his hands on the rag in his back pocket, fill you up, check the oil and wash your windows.

That was my Father in Law! All that and being done with a cigarette hanging from his mouth, never did catch himself or a customer on fire!
He had a visible pump out back that was used for stove oil, said there was a technique to dispensing fuel from them to get an accurate amount. He had to show it to the state inspector to get it passed, something to do with watching for the meniscus to break on little plate at the bottom of the gallon markers.

Sales tax is included on top of the fuel tax. When you request rebate of gas tax on off-rod use you only get refund on the actual fuel tax. Applies to Diesel bought through dispensers of on-road use. I have done both when I had a nursery business.

interesting read, I was surprised that with that volume there wasn't a surcharge.
at this time around here off-road $2.60-$2.80,
on road $3.10-$3.30.

I was 2 years old in 54. I have hand cranked a Farmall Super A.

In the late 60s I used to have to place a tin pan with a couple of pieces of charcoal under my motorcycle in the morning to get the oil warm enough I could kick start it.

In other words, you're just a youngster.:laughing: When I was 12 years old in '52, I used to hand crank our 1940 John Deere L. And in the late '50s, I had to kick start my 250 cc Zundapp motorcycle, but it was warm enough in Texas that I didn't have to do any warming.
