Is there any way to estimate from this placard how large a generator would be required to start this air compressor?

I've seen charts that predict the starting watts for an air compressor to be anywhere from 2x to 6x the running watts.

look on the data plate for LRA amps, THAT is what the motor will draw when starting up, multiply the LRA amps times the motor voltage, and THAT is the wattage. for instance, 40 LRA times 120 Volts=4800 Watts.

Is that the only spec plate for the motor on that ? Most electric things (motors) will list an amp rating somewhere
I don't see one here

A general rule of thumb is to calculate the size of generator required , then purchase a generator twice that size . Not kidding or trying to be funny.
A small consumer grade generator should not be operated anywhere near 100% load . Plus reserve capacity is required for inrush loads .

Our shed is 285 away from the nearest plug. Rather than drag our EU2000i down to it, we run three 100 extensions. Because it痴 much cheaper and we can connect items left unattended.

Amazon Basics 100 10/3 is $100.

I would be burying four runs of #2 copper in a conduit from the nearest service to a 60 amp panel in your shed . Two 10 ground rods at the shed and float the neutral wire free of the ground bar at the shed .

As previously stated several times by others . Inverter generators will not provide that momentary 2 or 3 times full load rated current . An Inverter generator goes to max current then shuts itç—´ self off.

Honestly, that's what I thought I had done.

I wanted to be able to run any single 120V appliance that could be powered by a standard 15A outlet (~1800W).

These little generators are rated 2300W surge / 1800W running. So roughly 4600W / 3600W combined.

Even after compensating for altitude, that should be something like 3600W (~30A) surge / 2800W (~24A) combined.
