I have never had problems with returning items to TSC. Most of the time they can find the receipt in the system. Agree take it back to TSC and let them replace it. Should be no freight if shipped to store. If they ordered the replacement, they should already have everything. I would not try to repair anything still under warranty. How much time between the delivery of the tiller and taking it back?
