How can I build a road up this hill

/ How can I build a road up this hill #51
For the steep hills, some times I have a need to back up the hill. Was on a couple of hills that the front tires started to spin, turned around, backed up, high rpm's , light on the pedal, no problem.

Been there. Done that. Didn't understand it. Still don't.

Back up pushing yourself with the bucket.

Pedal to the metal and it’s a stop.

Filling the bucket with dirt will help.

SeaMonster, now is when you chime back in here, and post pics of a nice trail heading right up the hill. :)

Really though, all you gotta do is get the machine up there once. Then excavate with your front loader and box blade from the top as far as you can, without getting stuck on the hill again. When you've done all you can from the top, try again from the bottom and hopefully your two sections are meeting up into a continuous trail.

Suggestions to help make it up the hill:
1) Get dug/filled as far as you can from the bottom. Back drag and smooth/compact this section out so that you can carry some speed on it.
2) Fill the front bucket with dirt, and have a heavy rear attachment on. The more weight the better.
3) HST in Mid range, max rpm, 4WD and diff lock. Get up to full speed on the flat and charge up into the hill. Back off the go-pedal when you feel the HST begin to protest or the engine bog at all. Or if your wheels start to spin much.
4) Open the beer you brought along with you and celebrate making it up.

.

Made it up today! Also moved forward into the flat area on the hill about 100 feet. Now I'm thinking I need my tyruck to be able to drive up there so I'm back to improving the ramp. I ahve loads of good size rocks on this property. I'm packing the sides of the ramp with them, then pouring clay soild on top. It is all getting compacted the first time I drive on it but I'll let it be rained on for the rest of this season before attmepting to drive my truck up there. Then I'm going to build a workshop awith some parking spots and tractor carport too. So exited to be up there!

It is a good feeling to achieve a goal through persistence... I felt the same way at my brothers place when I told him I would build a trial to the highest point... he was on board but it was very low priority.

Now, when he has company they often take the RTV and head to top... access really is everything!

In time, you will get a better idea of what needs to be bolstered and how you can make little improvements over time... the first trail I did 25 years ago gets improved a little each year... would never recognize it today from it's humble beginning as a deer trail.

Good Going!

PS... pics remind me of Western Washington...

So was rain the only thing keeping you from getting up there? Did you discover anything you were doing wrong?
