Hello folks,

I was getting my snowblower on, and checking everything over before our first big storm, and suddenly the lights went out.

No power from the inverter box.

The lights seem to run fine if I run another wire straight to the light switch. Can I leave it like this?

Why the inverter anyway...something about neon lights?

Thanks,

Rob

Is your outfit fitted with neon lights? If so, they are likely the reason for the need for 120VAC and a suedo sinewave inverter. Inverters are by nature power hungry and waste a lot of energy. They can also be a danger if not wired and protected properly. I have no knowledge of the electrical circuits on your machine and so cannot comment.

An alternative you might consider...LEDs are cheap, they consume little power for the light they produce and will run happily off the 12VDC system you have on your M-F.

I have added a 12 VDC cigarette lighter socket and LEDs at the rear of my M-F so I can run a 12VDC AG pump for spraying and LED lights to the rear of the tractor for work at night. I also installed a fuse panel to protect the electrical system. If you are interested, I can give you the list of components I have used.

If you do add 12 VDC LEDs etc. to your machine, do the wiring correctly and resist the temptation to just hook up wires to the battery. It is dangerous and can start a fire especially on a gasoline powered machine.

Also most LEDS like correct polarity when wiring up... Get them backwards they usually do not work....

NEON???........ Are you sure they are not HID (High Intensity Discharge)....

An invertor is not necessary for HIDs. Many of today's automobiles are HID equipped. Heck, my BMW R1150GS motorcycle has HID in the low beam. Come to think of it, the OP may be incorrectly identifying the HID ballast as an inverter...Is this so?

How about a photo of your "inverter".

For low cost, low power consumption, high Lumen lighting, LEDs are the way to go.
