Help me decide - Massey vs Kubota - 40-50hp

He's talking about US market share, where Kubota is around 50%, Deere next (about 20-25% if I remember right), and everyone else combines for the remainder. So he's right that even if you combine those other brands they are still less than Kubota in US market share. Mahindra sells a lot of tractors worldwide, probably the largest overall. But you have to take the number with a grain of salt since they are often rebranded machines made by other brands (TYM, Mitsubishi, etc). Some of those other brands could claim large numbers if we base it on units manufactured.

You are correct, in sales volume... but then in most of the world the average income is in the single of the thousands of dollars. Perspective is relative. What I should have said is they weren't comparable tractors.

Before making a choice based on interest rates try joining a credit union. I bought my slightly used Kubota and am paying 2.25%. That will also open up the possibility of buying slightly used.
I also agree with another L3301 owner that you should go with the M if you can afford it and plan to own the tractor for a while. It's much more machine for your buck.

I followed the same path you are when buying first tractor, not new to tractors but was as owner. Was very pleased with it Then bought second tractor and did some searching again. Then another and then another. I have own Case, and now two Kubotas and last purchase is JD. My needs grew in HP as often happens. You know what you want to do, you have experience and it seems you know your LONG TERM needs. Seems you have done your needed research and now only trying to decide which one is best for you. Sit on each one, drive it and operate what you can of it. The best tractor for you is the one you feel the most comfortable with. If you are not comfortable siting on it, wrong tractor. Some may disagree but if you are not pleased with the tractor it will proved to be a disappointment over and over. Trust your instincts, it often speaks the truth. Do like the advice given check prices on used models of consider ones, good way to see how others value them.

If your requirements are for heavier lifting get the MX...
If not get the L...
My personal opinion would be get the MX...

I do plan on keeping this tractor for a very long time. No plans to sell and this is likely why I知 being so indecisive. When I buy, it will be a long term purchase so I want to make a good decision.

Grand L. I looked at these and really dont need/like all the added tech features. I知 looking at a gear drive MX so the HST plus offered with the grand, really isnt all the appealing to me. I bet it is super nice. Id rather pay for a tractor that has more capabilities than features. Heck, the last few trucks I had were in work truck trim and a few had crank windows.

I doubt the additional money to go from the 3901 to the MX 4800 will be a huge deal in the future. I laughed about the couch cushion comment. Lol.

I visited the dealer this weekend with the best pricing (happens to be my local guy). He was very nice and super helpful. I知 pretty sure I知 going with the MX4800DT. Taking a few more days to sleep on it and then I値l decide.

Just as a perspective...
I traded a perfectly good New Holland 1720 in for a Workmaster 50...
These are similar in size and performance to the L versus the MX...
I liked the nimbleness of the 1720 but it's limited lifting abilities of the FEL steered me to the Workmaster...
You will love the MX if you go that route...

Selling a used tractor is easy. Selling multiple light implements in order to buy heavier, wider implements for a new, heavier tractor requires a lot of time. Depreciation on implements is generally greater than depreciation on a tractor.

When considering a tractor purchase, bare tractor weight first, tractor horsepower second and (narrowly) rear ballast third.

A quality dealer, reasonably close, available for coaching, is important for tractor neophytes. Most new tractors are delivered with a glitch or two requiring correction. My Kubota dealer is six miles away. I feel my local dealer continues to add value to my equipment after seven years. Dealer proximity is less important for those experienced with tractors and qualified to perform their own maintenance.

Many Massey engines along with Mahindra do not have DPF, and yes you are correct they have to have something, it is DOC (Diesel Oxidation Catalyst). Massey also claims this technology they use has no extreme heat build up.

I didnt think Massey and Mahindra made engines in this class of machine?

Well here is one more opinion to the mix. I have a MX 5200 and Century 2535 (Branson 3510). I will say that for a smaller tractor the Branson cannot be beaten for reliability, robustness, and functionality. However, the Mx 5200 is a larger tractor and in a totally different category.

The 5200 is a more powerful tractor, mine has the turbo engine and while the power is there it will use relatively more fuel. But it will handle a 7 ft bush hog with ease. The big advantage I see is that the Kubota in addition to having a larger loader has a mechanical shuttle shift transmission that is very very easy to operate. Not as easy as a HST but it is one of the best I have ever used and I grew up doing a lot of loader work with plain non shuttle transmissions on farm tractors and have used HST transmissions on smaller tractors in construction work. It is a simple reliable tractor. I am not saying do not get the HST but you will be surprised how easy the Kubota shuttle works in the MX series. It has a tier 4 engine so be prepared to see the automatic regeneration cycles at strange times. Again here is a vote for the MX series. W. Jones
