2020 GMC Sierra HD

This reminds me of the Tundra pulling the space shuttle. Complete ridiculousness. Not bashing, I have owned both models. Both good trucks. Just dumb stunts.

Hope that tailgate still works good after a few loads of sand/gravel spilled on it.

My tailgate looks pretty rough after a few loads being dumped on it and it’s double 6” channel iron. The good thing is the only things these trucks will be hauling is sailboat fuel. IMG_1297.JPG

Yep, not the best way to show off capabilities to an audience that pull loads all the time.

I can hear it now, just as soon as these new tailgates get into our hands, how long before we forget to pull the hitch out of the truck's receiver before dropping, stand by for the whines.

GM didn't bring their A game to the interior, well short of the Ford and RAM interior designs. Disappointing they didn't do better.

I am happy to see they aren't playing in the power wars choosing instead to offer an 8-speed transmission albeit, with a diesel, I'm not sure it has a lot of value except for those pulling loads in the upper limits with a lot of stop and go driving.

I kind of wonder about the long term operability of the tailgate also. My Ford step is more or less contained in the top of the tailgate, so it should be OK unless I completely bend the gate. For most users it should be fine, I guess. With the height of trucks now, you need some kind of step.

What bothers me about the new trucks is the huge obnoxious grilles. I got the Sport model of the F150 specifically to get the black out grille. I suppose the majority like the big chrome wall in front but it just doesn't do it for me.

I own an 2017 GMC Sierra 150 and my complaint is the visibility over the hood. The driver can not see the end of the right front fender so one must guess where it is while operating. The new 2020 models will have this same problem so my advice to any potential purchasers is take a test drive first. I did, but with all the bells and whistles I must have missed the important one, can I see the end of the front-end. Just putting this out there. Bob

I too do not like the big front ends. I would rather be able to see more easily out on the front corners. Do we need front cameras as well as rear ones now?

I agree...dumb stunts. I just saw where Ford is showing the Ranger pulling a row of 15 campers for their stunt...what will it be next?

Watch a Ford Ranger Tow 15 Campers All at Once | Automobile Magazine

The real problem is idiots that believe those stunts translate to actual towing capability. A kid at work bought a Toyota Tundra a couple years ago. One day I drove the 3500 dually to work and one of the other guys asked why I had it vs. the 1500 I drive on a daily basis. I mentioned that It is my tow pig that I use it to tow a 20k toyhauler and 15k tilt deck. The “kid” overheard and said that his Tundra could tow my trailers because his truck “had pulled the space shuttle”. He knew nothing about GVW or axle/wheel/tire weight ratings. Wouldn’t listen to any of us that he had fallen prey to marketing hype.

Pulling something on flat ground on wheels isn’t even a very impressive feat. If you have the air brakes unlocked you could pull a Fedex trailer on a dolly with a Prius. I don’t guess the brand of trailer makes any difference but those trailers are frequently on dollies. I’ve pushed several thousand pounds on rollers by myself by hand. This one takes some leverage advantage because I can’t do it by myself straight up but I can move my 12,000 pound forklift with no engine powered tools. I don’t know how much rolling resistance a loaded semi would have but I’d bet you could easily pull 2 or 3 on flat and hard ground and all brakes open with a pickup.
