Now you are getting older - what don't you do?

I turn 60 this year, arthritis puts limits on a lot of what I can do now compared to my younger days. But the thing that stands out the most is my 40' extension ladder doesn't do me much good any more, just don't have ladder legs like I use to.

Happy birthday Bird!

My stepdad is 79 until March and he moves better than I do. And nobody can outwork him.

My dad used to say it's a contest to see who can live the longest....

Oh, wait... that's who can stay married the longest.

I'm 48 with 2 ruptured disks. I do not jump down from anything. Other than that and my near sight issue, I'm pretty good.

My father is 69, I am watching him slow down and weaken quickly. 5 years ago he would out work me. It saddens me to see him become weaker and less agile. He has neck, spine and finger arthritis that is really effecting his ability to turn and look behind him. I have mirrors on the tractor and the UTV to help him be more comfortable in using the equipment. My biggest fear is the death of my father some day. He is my idol and mentor still. I love him like no other.

At 66, I think I can do 90% of what I used to do, slowing down my speed a little, and forgetting some things that are common knowledge. I started an apple and blueberry farm 3 years ago and this is the last year building it. The hard work is done, and that is tree removal, planting new trees, planting blueberry bushes. Starting in summer I can just walk around spraying and fertilizing, no more grunt work.

All the stuff my dad told me I was stupid for doing when I was younger. Like:
lifting with my back
jumping off the back of trucks
not wearing....gloves safety glasses, sun screen
spend the money on good work boots
the list goes on, maybe the old guy was right?
Told my kids the same things, they might be listening as they have watched me go through rota-tor cuff, knee and hip surgery.
Bout all I gotta say is wish I would have listened.

I guess I've always been a bit competitive, so recently it's been a little difficult for me to realize I've got to do a bit less. I've been doing the only yard work done next door for the last 8 or 10 years, but I've told the neighbor that I won't be able to do it in the future. My wife thinks I should hire our own yard work done, but I haven't given up on that yet. I'm not as steady on my feet as I'd like to be, don't sleep as well as I used to, etc. I've got one artificial knee, one artificial shoulder, and I've had a cardiac triple bypass.

No male member of my family, on either side, has ever lived to be 81, and I turned 79 today.

BUT . . . I've got no complaints. I've had a good life, a good wife, good daughters, and a good time, and I'm not done yet.:cool2:

Happy Birthday!

At 68 I can do most things I've always done, like most others, just slower & lighter loads. Knee pain has really hit me for the last year, right one scheduled for replacement in a month! I don't do roofs anymore, equilibrium problems stopped that!
