Hubby doing some routine maintenance on YM - 2000D and this plunked onto the floor from nowhere (?). I have crawled under and we can't see where it came from.

Help us out anyone?

Thanks in advance.

I can only guess. The parts manual on the 240 and the 2000 shows a plug that goes in the bottom of the clutch housing. I have no way to identify it or know what size it is. Looks like your plug is made to fit in appx 1/2" hole. See reference #8 here. CLUTCH: Yanmar Tractor Parts

I believe that is the steering shaft plug. It is where you add oil. I thought it was weird that mine had the metal top on it.

"NSK" is a Japanese bearing company, if that's any help.

Bingo! I think that's the source.

BurningBushFarm, look, or feel, on the back side of the steering column for a hole that size. But don't pour a lot of oil in there, just a little dribble, because it eventually leaks out of the steering box and gets all over.

You can say that again!

So I will -- You guys are good. :) It is the steering shaft plug. There is no way I could have seen the hole, even if I had been looking from under that part of the tractor.

When duanew1 said his was metal I was thinking, "Nah ours is rubber, but maybe it's an upgrade -- or older --." But dang .. I tapped it and cleaned it off and it is metal on top. Hubby found the hole easily when he knew where to look.

Real mystery part is that he was working at the front of the tractor messing with the radiator and stuff when it plunked down on the floor in the front half of the tractor. We never thought to look back that far. Wonder how long it was sitting around on some flat surface on the frame before it finally decided to jump.

Thanks guys.

There is a place to add oil to the Steering Shaft that you didn't know of. And if it was mine I think I would want to figure out if I need to add any? just sayin..

Agreed, you don't want that shaft to be dry, it can cause rust and corrosion and lead to failure over time. Figure out where that spot is to add the oil or grease and keep that shaft and gear lubed.

I believe the YM2000d steering box oil fill location is under the fuel tank... If so that will require a little work.2000 steering.PNG
