Given our neighbors and layout of the land with houses, that is VERY unlikely to happen. BUT if it did happen, I couldn't do anything. That's one reason why I picked to live where I did.

And that's one of the reasons many people choose to live in zoned areas, HOA's, etc... they don't want a 10,000 head hog operation going in next to them, or a dragstrip, or a trailer park, etc...

As they say, it all depends on who's ox is getting gored.

Yep, It's always something.
Just spoke to the wife; fox hound$ all over, and a gent on horseback in full regalia lumbering across our property with no sense of urgency.
Va. is one of those states where fox hunter$ can go anywhere they please, without notice, without permission. All you can do is wave, smile, and hope they enjoy looking around your property.

When I first joined TBN back around the turn of the century (I've always wanted to say that), there was discussion about trespassing. Here, land doesn't have to be posted. I was surprised at the number of states where all land is considered open UNLESS posted otherwise. Here it's assumed it's all private to begin with. Each state is different and I now see where and why it is that way.

Oh but, in Va, even if your land is posted, fenced, locked, and alarmed - the Fox Hunting Clubs can go and come as they please; the landowner has no rights.

Wow, I never know that. Not many foxe left in our neck of the woods, but if they were coyote hunters they would certainly be welcome on my property and many of our neighbors properties as well. ;)

That's interesting. I don't think I'd like that.

Reading up on it a bit...... it's not quite that they can come and go as they please.

Oh, but they can. unless you are talking about the firearm and vehicle restrictions. As I said though, these are fox hunting clubs. On horses, no guns.
So yes indeed, as they please.
This has been tested many times, and the fox hunters win.

And, the law has been interpreted to mean that a deer hunter using dogs can also enter the property without permission, on foot as long as they are unarmed.

That'a almost as rude as someone flying over your place in an aircarft with no mufflers.

Some people just think they are privileged and extra special, I guess.

Only to retrieve their animals. That's what the law says, and that's how it's been upheld in everything I've read. They can't "hunt" on your property, but they can "retrieve" their dogs. In everything I've read, that's for both fox hunters on horseback using dogs, and deer hunters using dogs. Raccoon hunters, too, it appears. None of them can be armed when retrieving their dogs. And you have to let them attempt to retrieve their dogs. But they can't "hunt" on your property without your permission.

Which seems kinda like, hey, my dogs are chasing a fox or deer through your property, and I have to chase my dogs, so hi and bye.

I also read several stories about people that can't hunt their own property very well due to dogs running through from other properties chasing the deer and foxes out and generally causing a commotion.

I don't think I'd like that either. But what can you do but comply with the law and work to get it changed?
