Yeah - the old avatar was sure a lot easier to spot as I swished down a thread. Yes, +6 is darn cold for our area. I've, of course, seen it colder, but seldom. We very seldom get wind when its that cold. But it's still pretty nippy right now +15.

Anyhow - to the business. The new steps make all the difference in the world. No more butt splashes or skinned knees.

I took some pics just now. It's going to kind of require your imagination for the pic of the tonneau. It's just a flat surface of vinyl coverer material and I couldn't get up high enough to get a really good shot.

Jstpssng - yeah. Now that I can get in/out without herniating myself or lopping off a knee cap - I probably will.

Man, the temps are taking another nose dive tonight. The sun is setting and the temps have dropped five degrees in five minuets.

AH - today is a day to be inside. It's -4F at 7:05AM. No great adventures on a cold day such as this.

Everything will be hunkered down outside. At least, until the sun is up.

I never realized how cold it is where you are...

South Sound it rarely snows and when it does it is gone by noon...

Ultrarunner - that minus four was quite unusual. We are back up to normal now +20F. It's eerie - when it gets that cold - very little of the wildlife moves. Yesterday afternoon, it had warmed up and a pair of coyotes made the grand tour, on the ice, around my lake. Checking for anything that might be flushed out of the cattails or huddled along the shore line. Sometimes, after a long cold spell, I will set a bowl of dry dog food out for them. I know its tough going for them and they do help keep the mouse population in check. Everything has its place and I get along with them quite well.

The mice can be prolific at South Sound... no shortage ever and a battle to keep the shop clear...

I've posted this in another thread but maybe some haven't heard. I live way out in the boondocks and have plenty of mice. This summer I trapped many and still didn't notice any reduction. The irritating thing is the nests they will build in the engine compartment of your vehicle. I've tried most everything once. Moth balls, dryer sheets, peppermint, even urine on shop towels. Nothing works for long.

Well, I finally realized what was so attracting about vehicle compartments. It's an enclosed space, up off the ground and with a nest it's probably fairly warm.

So four months ago I began opening the hood on all my vehicles and leaving them open. Close the hood when you use the vehicle - open it when you get home.

Guess what - - no mice, no mice nests in ANY of my vehicles for the last four months. I do this as a routine practice now and it works for me.

Give it a try - you have nothing to loose.
