Air Compressors

I bought the El-Cheapo QT54 a couple years ago. 24 amps and 15.4 cfm@100psi. It would be nice to have a larger tank and slower pump but this one will outlive me so I guess I'm stuck with it.

Yup!
My Quincy is the REAL 5HP industrial pressure lubed unit, sitting on a vertical 80 gal. tank.
Mine is the QT-5, bought new, 30 years ago (don't remember what I paid, but now about $2200 - direct from Quincy).

Never had a business use for a compressor.
I am just a long retired old fart, who has always opted for quality tools.
Very good for sandblasting!

Now it looks like you have to buy a QP-7.5 for pressure lube. About a grand more than the QT-5. I considered one when I bought the one I have.

I currently have a nice 60 gallon compressor that was purchased used off Craigslist for $200 about 5 to 7 years ago. Can't remember exactly the years. It came with 50 feet of hose and regulator set up ready to go. My other 30 gallon unit was stolen. It was purchased off Craigslist for $150. I have 220 in my shop so that is what I use. My point being you don't have to buy new to get a good unit and can save some coin.

The potential problem issue with buying used is the condition of the tank.
You have absolutely no idea if it has been drained daily.
A very high % have not.

You must have missed my "old fart" comment.
The emphasis should be on OLD. Too late for any more compressors!

That's been my concern as well. I traded a snowblower for a 60 gal "5hp" Kobalt. It worked good for a 2ish years then started leaking. I found the motor shaft sharpened like a needle & the pulley walled out to about 3 times the size when it had been running for days when the hole happened.

I was going to re-tank it, but the tank I got off CL for cheap ended up being crap as well.

I just decided to do it right & get the nice new real 5hp Quincy at that point. Compressed air explosions are insane. The tanks mostly just leak out the rust holes, but occasionally they will explode. You can get them inspected, but it's not within the budget of home users. You are better off just buying a better tank than paying an inspector.
