I'm not really sure what I'm seeing. Are there rafters? They should be no more than 4' on center. Purlins should be perpendicular and 24" OC. Is there a slope?

Posts only go 15" below ground? Sitting on 20" of concrete? I put fence posts at 20-24 inches minimum, encapsulated in concrete to the surface. Pretty sure I'd have at least one more post on each side too, though we don't know the current size.

Remember, you'll have wind down there . Wind under can do as much or more damage as snow over.

Posts are 36” in the ground with 15” of concrete..
Yes we do have some wind to contend with at times.
I can add some corner bracing if needed..

Any Nilgai where you're at?

Mr Walker..
No sir... A bit too far inland and north.. I’m just south of George West..
Just whitetail and feral hogs. We used too have javelina but the drought pushed them out..

I would think heavy rain is gonna make a racket. I have the same idea and I can't hear myself think if I'm anywhere near it when it's raining.

"To each his own" then... my entire roof is 'tin' (colorbond metal) with the 'entertainment' area being un-insulated. There's nothing so wonderful, to me, than the sound of rain on the roof. (and filling my water-tank )

The only time that it has been anointing is the rare occurrence of pea-size hail... now that's LOUD.

My house in standing seam metal, I hear nothing when it's raining, I should have installed plywood under the roof of the building that is loud. I put strapping and that's why it's so loud.

Are you going to insure it? Their are books you can get that discribe wind loads etc.

I use plywood for sound insulation, more concrete for wind lift, larger columns, beams, perlins closer together. Is the county going to inspect it.

Well it looks great to me and if anything comes up, that Hobart you have there will make short work of it. I really like the idea of working with metal, for some reason my tape measure always lies to me when I'm trying to do anything with wood.
I like to grill and smoke also and really wish I had the space to do something like you have there. Please keep posting pics so we can see your progress.

I’m way out of any inspector range.. Way in the middle of a large south texas ranch..... No plans to insure...
I had an old roof next too it that lasted 27 years that was built with very old/used lumber, creosote posts and old/rusted metal roofing. I built it when I was 19.. Surprised it lasted so long since it was built on a shoe string budget...
