Roy ... Good news, glad to hear it. Hope everything goes well.

Kyle... His side by side will go through two feet of powder snow with out any problem. And that's on a good up hill slope. He has a cab and a heater so its not to bad at all to ride around in. I was thinking about getting some but they are out of price range. For my ranger they want right at five thousand dollars.

I never had any desire to try ice fishing. I've had the chance to go a few times but I always passed on it. I do enjoy fly fishing in the summer.

I once saw a picture of a frozen lake in Alaska in which it appeared that there were large black things scattered on the surface. My brother told me that was ice fishermen who cut the hole in the ice, then put down enough padding to lie on, then covered themselves with a black tarp to block the light and then they could lie down and SEE the fish and try to tempt then with a jig.

Claye- Years ago I tried combining snowshoeing + fly fishing using a sinking line, short leader, weighted nymphs, and casting into the riffles. I caught nothing but cold. It was a miserably cold and wet experience which will not be repeated.

In my younger days I fished through the ice for many a winter. Almost always in a fish shack, complete with heat AND ice for my whiskey. Spent many a night in it as well, too drunk to navigate the snow machine home.
The only time I fished in the open with no shelter was when I went to Quebec to fish.

My screen name on some other forums is Ronfisherman. I was take it or leave it when it came to fishing. Friends took wife and me fishing. She caught a nice sized fish. She was so excited about catching that fish. We spent the next 25 years fishing the Greatlakes. But she would not go Ice fishing. Sure makes life good when you find your life partner likes the same sport as you.

Thanks for all the prayers and best wishes...Suzette came through fine.
She was still out when we saw her in the ICU and would be out for several more hours. My stepdaughter will be going back in tonight and I'll see her (Suzette) tomorrow morning.
The valve was replaced with a cow's heart valve...so, we got her a stuffed cow toy as a get well present....Suzette not being much on flowers

Bill- I may have (probably) ice fished once, from a heated van, using binoculars to watch the the tip-ups, and drinking a lot of rot gut blackberry brandy. Nasty stuff meant only for ice fishing or sitting around a campfire, or driving a porcelain bus.

… Sure makes life good when you find your life partner likes the same sport as you…. RonJH I never considered bird watching a sport, but it applies. We should all be so lucky to at some point in life’s journey bond with a kindred spirit.
