Now you are getting older - what don't you do?

Right Diggin it. Many years ago I gave up trying to get eight straight hours of sleep or six. Now - it's two or three here and again later in the day. I might even be able to get four if I go to bed around 11 or 12 pm. It's the pits. Around 2pm I get sleepy and need a nap.

So I go on a day long road trip. I better figure on a nap around 2pm or I might doze off at the wheel.

Don't do THAT!!!! We're still waiting for more pictures of that PW strutting it's stuff, not stove all to cat doo-doo!

The truth is - - I could drive the PW out in one of my big field - take several pics and it would look like most everywhere else here in Ea WA. Everywhere is white, white & more white. Where I want to go and get good pics of outdoor adventure is snowed shut. There are FANTASTIC logging roads in Northern Idaho and north central WA state. I will be going there when it's something less than three feet of snow.

So - like everybody else around here. It's a kind of waiting mode. Last week I tried a trip down south. It's about a 260 mile round trip. I got about thirty miles south and the snow drifting off the wheat fields made driving hazardous. And it wasn't even snowing - just blowing like the mill tails of H**L. Not good. Sadly I turned around and came home.

I don't need an adventure that requires use of the winch. It's real hard to find a winching point when in the wheat fields. I take my new iPhone with me now. I've figured how to take pics with it. But I've got to have my son show me how to transfer from the phone to my computer. I know it can be done with Blueteeth or something like that. Next time I venture out I'll take my small Canon. Now THAT I can take pics and transfer to this computer.

I will soon try the trip south again. The county roads will be cleared by now - no new snow and it's not been blowing.

Sleep.

Getting to sleep.

Staying asleep.

Fortunately, never been a problem for me. I can sleep anywhere. I have noticed the last 4-5 years I toss and turn a bit more, mostly due to having to shift position because of joints getting stiff & uncomfortable. I find that taking a few aspirin before going to bed helps a lot. Dr. said it's most likely restless leg syndrome, and the aspirin was the right thing to do.

Background noises render my ears useless, which is a real PITA when some equipment operator doesn't want to shut his machine off so that I can talk to him. (It doesn't take them long to figure that out, either.) Last fall when I took my pigs to the slaughterhouse they had a HS girl filling out my order who wouldn't speak much over a whisper; she was in the office, while I stood in the retail room with multiple coolers and freezers running in the background.

With me background conversations or a radio/tv playing is more of a problem than machinery (unless it's so loud it drowns out everything). More pronounced in my right ear...I've found that if I lean my left ear towards the speaker I can make out what they're saying much better. Since it appears that I'm looking away, I'll mention what I'm doing and why if it's bad.
It's a problem I've had most of my life, dunno if it's gotten worse with age. Wish I could get my wife on board...she has a tendency to turn her head away, then mumble.

Yes -- Hollywood and TV don't come close to duplicating the noise of weapons. I guess they can't because your speakers wouldn't take it. Most city people are amazed at the sound of a shotgun.

Along the line of fun facts to know and share, one of the surest ways of getting hearing loss in the military is playing in a ceremonial fife and drum core. The frequent exposure to those high pitched fifes wears out your ear drums.

I've had ringing in my ears for as long as I can remember; and like so many others also grew up around tractors, snowsleds, chainsaws, lawn mores et.al. before we ever heard of hearing protection. I also had the typical young guy stereo in my truck which makes others cringe.
When I was young and (even) dumb(er) I bought my first revolver, and also a 20 gauge single to replace one which got run over by a tractor.
I had never fired a handgun before, but everybody knows that a .22 doesn't make much noise, right?
I blasted a couple of boxes of ammo through the H&R, then touched off the shotgun. It wasn't until I packed up and headed home that I realized I couldn't hear a thing. My hearing didn't fully recover until the next day. Since then I've gotten religious about hearing muffs for target shooting; but not so good when hunting. It wasn't that uncommon to take 2, 3, or even 4 grouse out of a tree with a .22 handgun; yet I paid for it afterwards. I finally gave up the revolvers and carry my MarkII; the semi is a little quieter than a revolver, although probably not enough to make a difference.

I started using .22 subsonic ammo. Much quieter.

LOL, a whole lot of things.
I 'retired' 30 years ago, well semi retired, picking and choosing renovation jobs and snow removal for some 35 clients.
B4 that I owned an aviation business at a major airport and being close to lots of noise damaged my hearing but otherwise I enjoy good health.
While I consider myself to still be active, activity is not what it was but at 80 I can't complain.
Right now I am thoroughly fed up with snow and eagerly awaiting spring.
The berms where my drive meets the road are so high that I simply can not see oncoming cars, to the point that I am considering mounting mirrors on the front of my fenders (with magnets) simply to avoid being rammed.--- and that's not only at my drive but at every intersection in out rural city.
I usually leave a pair of Adirondack chairs on my dock over the winter (lazy) and its kinda cool to see them sitting out there in the snow over the winter but this year I have no idea where they are the snow is so deep.
To give you an inkling as to snow depth, my blower has 4 foot 'drift cutters' mounted and they simply are too short.

Ask me if I'm fed up of winter.
Roofs are collapsing in many areas due to snow loads around here and the most common sight is a PU driving around with ladders tied on the roof as the welfare crowd is making some nice cash.

Just had a talk (aka surgery followup) with my neurosurgeon last week. No more "brute force and awkwardness" moves for me. No bending or twisting I can avoid, and NEVER with a load. Work smarter, use tools to minimize stress on my back, and hire out if in doubt. Give the big chainsaw to my son, keep the lightweight. I bought the grapple a bit late, but it's going to get a lot of use. So is the trailer with the hydraulic dump.

Just contacted a (rather eccentric) guy I know, trying to find a certain transformer. We had long talks in the past. He can't hear worth a crap, but has never mentioned it. He just says, what, what? What a shame, I can't communicate with this individual. Why are people so vain? Everyone has this shield around them, that only hurts them in the end.
