Towing in Western Canada...weight rules?

U.S. standards (some states vary) is if gcwr of tow vehicle and trailer is under 26,000 lbs you don't need a CDL... Correct me if i am wrong.
So lets say I am pulling a 12k trailer behind an F250 (12.5k tow rating), I should ve okay.

I can't help your Canadian Knowledge quest, but you did request correction haha... In California, you can't pull a non-"travel trailer"/camper that's over 10,000 lbs without a CDL (and in California you can get a non-commercial CDL, too - technically, it's a "non commercial class A"), regardless of GCWR & tow rating. Go figure.

Thanks everyone for your comments and help so far.
I did know that the Canadians have a lower trailer brake requirements. I believe that they have a 50% rule. If the trailer exceeds 50% of the tow vehicle's weight it needs a trailer brakes.
Not an issue for me since I would have brakes and controller.
I read that California had some extra regs too.
This will be informative for many people.

My wife pointed out that the reciprocity is for licences and what those licenses cover. So if your state's license okays you to haul a certain amount, then you are okay to haul that everywhere.

Hopefully I will get some answers today.

Since they would not be versed on every US state's laws does that mean that they likely won't even take a 2nd look at an out of country registered vehicle beyond any obvious safety concerns?

Take a look at lgim's post in this thread.
If it's under 10,000 kg, they don't bother to look. If you look at his profile, he is a branch manager of a trucking company in Saskatchewan.

All I remember is that I licensed my flat deck for only 10,000 lbs so that I wouldn't have to stop at a scale.
