Snow 6' blade on my GC1720 ok?

Hey all, just wanted to get your take... I bought a 6' Taylor-Way back blade off CL today. Paid $200. Paints peeled and it's got the usual outdoor kept surface rust... Besides wondering if the price was decent, is the 1720 able to push snow with that size blade? I was looking for a 60" when I found this. With yet another snow coming this weekend, I jumped. I have a 100' of asphalt drive, and a quarter mile of gravel to clear a path in.

I push a 6' loader mounted plow on my GC2310, no problem.

The driveway is one thing. But, I would not want to have to plow backing up a quarter of a mile.

Yeah, I thing I can get away with just back pushing my drive and a hill I have to get out of my valley. I think maybe I could pull the blade just to knock down the snow in between?

Grade, and tire type will affect your ability to push snow.

My property is flat, and I have turf tires. I also leave the backhoe on for ballast.

If you have hills, and ag tires, it will be more challenging.

As far as pulling snow goes, I haven't tried. But clearly, you will create traction issues if it is deep enough to build up behind you.

If you need to, you could also cut the plow down so it is not as wide.

You may also find, the three point hitch is not set up to be able to lift the blade very high. This is because subcompact tractors need a slightly modified version for maximum performance. This is generally referred to as "BX" series implements.

You can modify the attachment points to make it work better on your tractor, if necessary. Such as, moving the attachment pins, on the bottom, to the inside of the a frame.

Interesting. I hadn't considered the height restrictions... I have yet to dismount the hoe to use it. I sold my Yanmar F24D back in December, it would have had no issues with how high it could lift... Guess it's one of those things I'll need to figure out! Thanks for the input ray66v.

Just be gentle when pushing backwards there no trip springs.

I blade a mile of gravel rd with a rear blade going forward.Just angle the blade sharply and go kinda fast. The snow will get thrown of the end of the blade. I have done 10 inches of snow this way many times.

I think the 1720 will have it's hands full with a 6'. 5' would've been better. You can always cut and make it smaller..!
