There is more in the equation than distance..... hills, mountains, is it flat? All will determine height you will need to mount. For antennas, size does matter.

I CAN FAST FORWARD THROUGH THE COMMERCIALS.

Excellent post, thank you. Fast forwarding through commercials is a big benefit.

Across the saltwater it is flat of course, but there is an island between. My guess on the direct line between me and most of the stations the island elevation is less than 150 feet. That Tablo sure looks interesting

I have DirecTV at this moment, and I do like it and do not have any premium channels (HBO, Starz etc). However, there is no bundling of internet and cell phone in my area. I pay $145 for satellite, $60 for Spectrum internet, and $110 for two cell phones. Way too much money, in my opinion. DirecTV, as was mentioned on this thread could care less if we leave, so we will leave tomorrow.
Spectrum offered us cable for $120, internet for $40, and cell service (two new phones unlimited data & talk) for $60. All taxes included, and we are financing the phones at 0 percent. (I could buy them but why if they won’t offer a deal).
The point is, we were loyal to DirecTV and they kept raising costs. At least now we can switch every year if we can get an intro price with no contract. It costs a bunch of money to live today, everything is taxed to death and still going up.

Direct TV/ ATT is pricing themselves right out of the game with their introductory 1 year and then they rape you the 2nd year. Dish Network, who I switched to over a year ago, doesn't do that. I pay $90 a month with no movie channels and I think that's a fair price. Direct TV didn't even want to talk to me until my contract ran out, and then they wanted to do back flips. No thanks, I don't need their drama. I hate all the streaming crap, I want an on screen guide and DVR and that keeps me happy.

How did we ever survive with only three channels, no internet, and rotary phones? And for the real old folks, radio.

Times are a changing. My 70 year old uncle finally got a cell phone. The world is ending. lol

I am thinking I will cancel my Comcast station lineup but keep the internet. I think I will set up an antenna on the roof for the Over the Air TV for the dozen or so local stations I get. Then get some Roku boxes and connect them to the internet and see what the free Roku stations are like. I will likely cancel the Comcast station lineup after getting everything else setup or the wife will not know what to do. I am guessing Comcast will ratchet up my internet fee if I do not have the TV lineup which right now is very reasonable (for the internet).

I have not had any cable T.V. for 9 years and do not miss it or the bill that came with it. It really did not take long to adjust to it. I have the antenna for the Over the Air TV and that is enough. I am fortunate to have some good Libraries fairly close that have tons of DVD's to rent for free if I want to see something and plenty of children's movies for the kids. I like documentaries on history stuff and how-to DVD's and the Library has plenty of these to look at.

It is also really nice to just sit with the wife at night sometimes with no television going. Just enjoying each others company and the relaxing sound of silence.

I have no cancellation policies, I can leave anytime. When they raise rates I will go somewhere else. I do like DirecTV but they give newbies a big discount and none to legacy companies. A complication in my neck of the woods is it is hard to find an internet bundle outside of Spectrum.
My neighbor called this evening and spoke to my wife. She, the neighbor, said they are with Soectrum now and want out because of high prices. My wife told her to just switch from year to year and she will hopefully keep prices lower.

Wow !

140.00 for tv. Something that was supposed to be sent on the air waves with advertisers paying the cost now your paying for it and still paying the advertiser also.

If you want to know why rates are so high, look at the way cable and media company executives live. You're paying for their toys.
