"When it clicked, the radiator fan acted like it wanted to turn but it did not."
Can you turn the engine over by hand, and assure it is not seized?

Uh.Oh! 1000 dollar starter...

My point. Esp. how rare it would be locked up unknowingly to Norm. And more of a shady repair shop price. I honestly don't think that was for a starter even with labor included no matter how shady. Wrong repair ticket maybe? I don't know.
It's been 2 days and with it trying to turn over, Fan trying to move. He may have found the problem. If locked up I think we would of heard about it my now.

Did it have the same #of teeth on the Bendix. I have read hoye saying there were some that bolted up but tooth could was off and it would grind the flywheel.

Hoye lists a starter for our ym2000 for like $350 I was thinking. So I can see some stealership charging a markup of $50so on that starter they would charge $400. If it was in a hard to get to spot, like removing a loader or lots of side panels, charging diagnostics I can easily see them charging another $400 for a total of $800. And if it was a $400 or $500 starter it could be closer to that price.

I wouldn't pay that but I can see it. Some of these places have crazy labor prices.

I know what your saying and agree with some repair shops and taking advantage of a unknowing customer. Sure it happens. I know what a JD. setup with a frontier loader on it is like. Not an issue there. And they're expensive and know what other repairs cost. Were talking a foot or two clearance and I think only 3 bolts. The YM2000 that would be around 100$ a bolt. 2 mounting the starter and 2 Elec. And maybe a couple to get the loader out of the way. Wow! They don't stay in business that long. Again I think the poster found the problem. All he has done was checked the battery so IMHO bad cables, Bad/dirty Ground to the frame or actually to the battery. Not knowing just because the battery is clean but the cable connections to it are dirty. It's been a while for sure not hearing anything and it was that simple of a problem.

Yeah $1000 for our yanmar starters would be a screw job for sure.

I had an issue with my starter Bendix not jumping out. I took the solenoid most of the way off and put it back on and it's been fine for a year or so, I must have knocked loose some corrosion or fixed a bad connection in the process.
