Hydraulic oil leaking from pto lever

Hi guys.
Does anyone know the procedure for replacing the rubber oring behind the pto selector? Do I need to drop the oil? Can I replace it without removing the cover plate? Should it be set to neutral, ground speed or engine speed if removing the plate?
I used to have a leak behind the cover plate & 6 screws in the photo but that's been fixed by a new gasket.

Hi, you must drop the oil through the drain plug and then remove the cover of the PTO lever, no matter what position it is in (ground - neutral - motor) just remember it when you replace the cover, take advantage of cleaning the Hydraulic oil filter, after assembling test with the engine off the positions of the lever to be sure that everything went well, a greeting from Uruguay.

You don’t have to drain all the oil out, just below the level of the lowest bolt. Just top it off after you’re done. That whole assembly must be removed if I remember right. There’s a roll pin on the front side along with a spring and detent on the back side. Pops apart pretty quickly, but if you remove the roll pin with that plate installed, the selector, spring, etc will fall into the transmission sump.

When I did mine, I just removed the plate and let the oil run out into a pan. Then I just put fresh oil back in and recycled the bit that came out. If you remove the lowest bolts last, you can prevent too much oil loss. Put the bolts back in after the plate is out to slow the loss of oil, too.

Could I just jack up the left side so that would prevent oil from coming out of the cover plate?

Doubt it, but honestly I’d just pull the bolts out and put a drain pan under it- whatever drains out you can catch and recycle. Just top it off when you’re done. No big deal really, if you’re quick to put the bolts back in you won’t lose much oil at all.
