Hi, I have a Massey Ferguson T E D 35. I am renewing the oil seals in the steering box and found the box full of grease.The repair manual for the tractor says it has oil in the steering box. What do l put back in the steering box grease or oil? My tractor is painted all grey like the te-20, is this right colour or should it have a red bonnet and wheel guards?

Strange model number TE-D 20 is a lamp oil Ferguson.

Not sure what a T E D 35 is either, but to my understanding, all the old Masseys used 90w in their steering boxes, and the seals going out was very common. Can't comment on the paint.

He may mean a TEA model. They were grey.

It was fairly common for many of the older tractor steering boxes to be filled with grease if they started leaking. I believe some of the Fords actually switched to grease after they discovered that it didn't take them long to start leaking like a sieve.

We put the same product in the steering boxes in restored cars - it's called "Liquid Grease" and was developed for exactly that purpose. It will lubricate the steering gear quite adequately .... but it is too thick to leak out!
