Ive got a 2002 1250 and when i got it the previous owner had a bungee holding the battery down. He gave me the original hardware to hold the battery in place but i cant figure out how it installs. I was wondering if anyone that has this style of tractor could take a few pics, i would really appreciate it.
Thanks

Just wondered if you ever got this figured out. I replaced the batter in mine several years ago and forgot to re-install it.

My son has a 1240. I'll try to get a picture of the battery and hold down next time I'm at his place. Usually get there once a week or so.

I got it figured out. The previous owner put in a battery that was bigger than what came stock. I had to drill a new hole for the J bolt. Ill take a few pics later today.

Thanks. I think that was my problem as well. I am only on my second battery and the tractor is 20 years old. Even though it still cranks I think I will replace the battery as part of my current maintenance activities (replacing the water pump).

Batteries...what a pain...I inherited what seemed to be a reasonably good battery when I bought my M-F 231S. It started just OK and I subsequently found the alternator was lazy only producing about 13 VDC, not sufficient for proper battery charging. Upon removing and disassembling the alternator, I found the slip rings had been abraded away due to dirt in the alternator. Cleaning produced no improvement and replacement slip rings were no longer available. So, after a new alternator was installed and a nice 14.4 VDC with the engine running, the battery performance improved. When I bought the tractor, the battery hold down hardware was missing completely so I found some on Ebay that worked. FYI, I maintain 10 automotive batteries on a motorcycle, riding mower, automobile, tractor and diesel motorhome. If I had to replace them all, it would cost about $1000.00 total. SLA, AGM and FLA batteries have become expensive in recent years so I have 4 battery chargers that are used to keep batteries happy. A good battery charger will save you money over the years of service. My BMW motorcycle battery is now 10 years old and spins the engine like new.

The motorhome batteries are 8 years old and still have like new capacity and spin the Caterpillar diesel engine vigorously.

I learned some time ago, a smart battery charger can double battery life. I leave my chargers on 24/7 without concern. My batteries have never failed as a result.
