Buying new with cash- how much bargaining wiggle room?

I think if I was paying cash I would try to find a well maintained used tractor that had less than 500 hrs.

I absolutely, without question concur.

When I bought my Massey 1742, there weren't many used ones around in that size. One used JD , smaller, but for the same money as my new purchase. Guess it depends on the area one is searching. Good luck in your purchase.

When I bought my BX, I priced it out both ways, cash and 0% 0 down. The only way I was to make a better deal, was to buy a few implements at time of tractor purchase and put those on the finance plan as well. Don't know if it is different with other colors or bigger tractors, but I decided to keep the cash in my pocket and also thought the KTAC insurance was a fair deal as well especially being a newbie to tractors.

I got $200 knocked off the price for paying cash on the 1025R, on top of the already pretty deeply discounted price for buying a leftover 2017 model.

It really doesn稚 matter to the dealer weather you pay cash, finance privately, or finance through the manufacturers credit arm. The dealer gets the same amount of money for the transaction
no matter where the payment comes from.

As my Deere dealer told me, the low cost Deere financing is really a buy down of interest... finance with Deere and you don稚 qualify for the cash back incentives, but you still get the dealer discount (part of the markup he is willing to share with you).

Bring either your own cash or a check from your credit union and you get the Deere corporate incentives available at the time, plus the dealer discount, but there痴 not an additional discount for cash. Your roll of $100 bills is no more valuable than a check from your credit union.

For some reason I don稚 understand, many people, particularly older people have the misconception that walking in with a wad of bills gets them a deeper discount. I don稚 see any rationale in that thinking.

Well I guess I just can’t add and subtract or compare what I paid to what someone else paid without confusing which is more, less or the same.

I'd suggest to never suggest that U intend to pay cash, pretend you need finance.

My reasoning is that many if not most finance plans include kick backs to the seller.
Thus by suggesting the finance route the seller will go back to his approved minimum knowing he'll get his income via finance "commission" , aka 'kickback'.

(I was once in the equipment sales and was frequently even asked how much 'commission' I needed to make the deal fly.)

The only finance related "deal" I got from the JD dealership was for the X394. I was going to use a cash back visa & they offered about a 3.5% price reduction + another benny or two for paying cash. When using 0% financing on the two times buying tractors, they still did a bit of a discount off list plus the current incentive bundles.

I bought my brand new tractor for only about $2000 more than the best price I could find on a used one. I'll gladly pay 10 % more for brand new with full warranty.
