Most of those things are hellishly expensive. A friend bought an Italian one at an auction cheap, and sold it for a killing. I would want to know of peoples experience with this model before I bought one. It just seems way too cheap. There would be a lot of things that could go wrong with a cheap unit.

I bought a $1500 Bestco flail mower (48" wide). Not the best investment I ever made. I experimented with several types of blades. It never cut weeds to my satisfaction. And it was slow. I could get the results I wanted by sharpening the blades on my brush hog to the radius I use on my riding mower. I was cutting weeds, not shrub or saplings, so that fine edge worked OK.

The orchard growers around me use flails almost exclusively to mow the grass/weeds in their orchards to less than an inch in height. Important for controlling contamination in the orchard.

My thoughts exactly, which is why I posted here.

Please look at the Del Morino boom mounted orchard and vineyard flail shredders as that is what you need for your mowing purposes.

You have to keep in mind the mule has to be heavy enough and wide enough to maintain its center of gravity on the road shoulder and also completely resist the stress and weight created by the over center operation of the boom and flail attachment when it is fully extended to the right or left depending on which type you purchase.

If you talk to the folks at Cummings and Bricker who are the East Coast importer for the Del Morino brand of farm equipment they can tell you who is the closest Del Morino dealer near you.
You may end up putting duals your tractor and loading the rear tires to make it more stable in use but the right size orchard and vineyard flail mower will have the reach and ability to mow and shred brush vertically.

You will need to have the tires loaded with ballast or invest in wheel weights and suitcase weights to increase the stability of the mule while you are mowing.

You will have to decide whether your mule is capable of using the largest FUNNY Super model of orchard and vineyard shredder or the smallest CENTURION Super vineyard flail shredder for your needs.

IT MUST be sized correctly for the tractor it will be used on to permit the mower to operate safely within the booms elevated range of motion and the fully extended width and down angle to permit safe mowing.

If you have shallow ditches you will have to stay on the road shoulder and then raise the boom to allow the mower to be lowered to mow the ditch bank.

Del Morino offers 2 model widths for the FUNNY SUPER orchard and vineyard shredder and 3 model widths of the CENTURION SUPER orchard and vineyard shredder.

Some of those rigs cost more than a compact tractor.

I bought a value leader flail mower about 10 years ago. I use it to mow 2 acres about 4 times a year. the rear roller bushing failed after the first year, parts were not available. I rebuilt that part of it using bronze bushings and drill rod for pins. I loaned the mower last week and now the flail drum shaft sheared off at the pulley. the drum is not available. I am looking at rebuilding that part of it as well now. I did get a lot of use out of it and it held up pretty well. If your going to use the flail mower a lot, be prepared to make your own parts if something breaks or spend quite a bit more and buy something that will hold up well and has better product support.
