I was in a body shop last year getting them to look at my rusting 08 Sierra back fenders. He made a comment about my 08 Sierra Diesel being a very survivable vehicle. I think of that from time to time when I get spooked and there is some comfort in knowing that.

I have a good friend who drives FORD 3500 Diesels and has some idea that anyone that drives a small car couldn't value their life much! Funny, what some people believe. For starters, not everyone has $100G to buy a new truck every few years!

It is all relative. A large part of the reason that a bigger vehicle is more "survivable" is because it is bigger. If all the other vehicles on the road were the same size/weight as the 3500, I don't know if you'd be able to say the same thing; it would then come down to differences in safety design features, not just mass. The 3500 is safer for the passengers BECAUSE most of the others on the road are driving much dinkier vehicles.

But the FACT remains, in todays world the bigger full sized vehicles ARE safer.

Too far forward... too much tongue weight?
Rear tires are around the first axle on the trailer. Normally you'd probabky want the rear tires a little behind the 2nd axle, depending on the axle position & trailer ballance.

I think that's a M, so probably a 6,000lbs machine at least, pushing 5k if it's only a MX (plus 1k for the mower). Most of that will be sitting on the hitch. Landing gear on the trailer is a beefy one, so I'm guessing a 14,000lbs rated trailer. At the proper 15% tongue weight that's going to be designed for a maximum of just over 2k lbs. They are probably getting almost double that.

Loader in the air is bad for the hydraulics, but not likely to blow out any hoses on a new machine unless that trailer was really bouncing over rough terrain.

bkgri, There are several things wrong in that picture but what specific component failed?

.
3pt in the air too. It has a chain over the tail wheel, so it could have exerted a lot of force on things there.

Only 1 chain on the front & its vertical so doesnt have much ability to prevent front or rearward motion. I dont think you need 4 chains legally until 10k lbs though. But it is best practices. You do need a chain on the loader & to have the loader down though.

Trailer fail.jpg

14000lbs trailer and the tongue broke....wonder why  Surprised the trucks hitch is still there as well...
Good to see everyone so far eye up the wrongs....apparently the dealer loaded the tractor for the buyer (is buyers rig) and let it leave as such ...scary.
Luckily the tongue broke in the buyers drive and Not on the road.....that could've wrecked the whole works. Guy said tongue was already cracked prior so it has carried a lot of tongue weight previously I'd say.
Tractor is listed at 5000lbs plus 1250 for loader plus bucket, fluids etc etc and rotary cutter and likely 3500lbs plus of trailer
Dot would have had a field day with this one
Thinking the person learned a lot.... after taking some heat on their fb post. Hopefully others learn and yes stuff happens but this is right on negligence given the tongue weight
