Take the carb off and set it aside. Then give it a shot of starting fluid and pull the cord. It should at least pop. That will eliminate a lot of stuff and you can then focus on the carb.

Hopefully get to it Sunday. Thanks!

Not a small engine mechanic, but I know that (carb) float valves can stick and gas keeps running til the tank is empty. Maybe the same happens if stored at some weird angle. Don't fry your starter. I have little doubt, with patience that this can turn out well, at little or no cost.

After I got it running, I would change the oil again for good measure.

Yep, float is stuck in bowl of carb. You can research and buy a whole new chinese carb on ebay for fairly cheap. Else, you need a carb rebuild kit. Also put an inline shutoff valve on the fuel line.

Good luck. Snapper RER rear engined riders are great, simple mowers.

Thx Kyle. Leaning towards that eBay carb. Just seems like an easier fix. Hoping I can get some good use out of it. It’s like a brand new mower. 07 and it doesn’t look like anyone has ever sat on the seat.

Well, I finally got the time to pull the carb and a shot of starting fluid. Turned key, pulled cord, nothing. Pumped all the gas from the cylinder first, and drained the gas oil mixture from the crankcase.
Waited a while and tried again.
Any suggestions on what I need to do next. Beginning to think I bought a disaster. They must have seen me coming. Why else would they sell a brand new $2,000 mower for practically nothing?

You would be surprised what people sometimes even give away.

My own trick for starting small gassers, two and four stroke, make sure you have a spark, take off the air cleaner and direct propane from an UNLIT torch into the throat. It helps to have someone assist in this usually. It has worked most of the time and usually when it gets running, it stays running.

If it has spark and compression, it should run on the propane.

Did you check to see if it has a spark at the spark plug?

It looks like lightning, just smaller.

Ha! I was looking closely at spark plug gap. Didn’t see it. Not getting a great pull left handed on the pull cord though. I’m thinking I should have or would have seen it, if it was there.
