Good Morning!!!! 50F @ 7:00AM. Sunny. High 71F. Winds NW at 10 to 20 mph.
The weather here yesterday was perfect for those that like variety. It started off well enough, with temps in the 50s and not much of a breeze under beautiful blue skies. Then clouds moved in, and by noon there wasn't much sunshine to be had anywhere. I came in for lunch about 2PM, and before I'd finished the noise of something hitting the house had me turning to look out the north door in the office to see hail bouncing off the porch.
That went on for fifteen minutes or so with little or no accumulation, but we lost about ten degrees. An hour later the sun was back out in full force, and the wind that had brought the storm sell was redoubling its efforts to clear the sky of any gray. By dinner time it had dropped to a stiff breeze, but being from the north the back porch was sheltered enough to enjoy with a glass of wine. That's when I noticed the grass had gotten high enough in the upper meadow to hide all but the heads of the deer laying down there, a sign that some quality time with the tractor is in my near future.
If I had a nickle for everything I'd but somewhere safe so it wouldn't be lost, I could probably pay cash for a brand new tractor. Yesterday it was the bolt that holds the spare tire clam shell under the van, two of which have disappeared, seemingly into another dimension. I had a much longer bolt that would fit, but had to make a sleeve to fit around it before it could apply pressure where needed, and using that was able to complete the cutting and welding needed on the clam shell so it accommodates a wider tire. I need a bit more steel to make a guard to keep the tire from interfering with the steering rod, so that's on today's agenda. Looks like the wind will be back, so coating everything with bed liner will have to wait a day or two, but the 10-day forecast doesn't show any rain so there's no hurry.
I'd been noticing some problems with the wireless network the past few days, and yesterday morning I realized that the 2.4 GHz devices were no longer able to access it. A Google search showed I'm not the only one having that problem, and the fix turned out to be something as simple as configuring the routers to only use the maximum speed setting for that band, 54MBPS. Two hours looking for the solution, two minutes to implement it. No real reason why it happened, either, and that makes me suspicious I haven't seen the last of this particular gremlin. And since the additional two years of warranty I purchased with the routers has either expired or is about to, I think my suspicions are well founded. Is anyone using the new mesh network routers around their place? They are rumored to have better signal strength and are much easier to configure than the open source firmware I ended up installing here...
Happy Hump Day, folks!
