Hello,

I was doing some clean up work inside my 4310 and came across this single wire that seems to be attached to the back of the fuse box. Has anyone seen this wire before? Do you have one in your 4310? Do you know what it's for . . . or gets connected to? Any information at all would be appreciated.

I have a "spare" wire coming out of the back of my fuse box also.I bought the tractor new and it was never attached to anything. This is assuming that we're both talking about the same wire. I now use that wire as a keyed power for a fan that I use when mowing ditches.

Plug something (light bulb, volt meter, etc.) into it and observe if 12V and/or when it is powered and when not.. Should give you a clue what it is... let us know what you find out.

Do you keep your left/right brakes locked just for road travel?

beenthere,
Used my Voltage Continuity & Current Tester and plugged it into the female end of the "mystery wire" with the key off, in the ON position, and with the engine running. No indication of current; must be a dead wire, unless I did something wrong in my testing.

My brakes are always locked.

Did you test the wire using the 'lights' switch? I know that there's a single (paired) male & female bullet plug for hooking up auxiliary/work lights... it's wired to the lights switch.

Wagtail,

Thanks for the suggestion . . . I'll give that a try tomorrow. Thanks for replying, very much appreciated.

Fred,

I did a little digging into the mystery wire and found it on the same side as yours on my 4310. It seems to be powered off of the #5 fuse which is just labeled KEY ON on the tractor panel. When I pulled the #5 fuse it took power off the mystery wire and also disabled the instrument panel and the fuel cut off solenoid. I think the mystery wire may have been for a diverter valve to operate optional rear remotes off the third SCV section but that is just speculation on my part based on the X3 connection listed in the service manual wiring diagram.

According to the service manual wiring diagram Fuse 5 branches off to:

X3-W1 Main Wiring Harness to W8 Diverter Valve Wiring
Harness.

X5-W1 Main Wiring Harness to W2 SST Jumper Wiring
Harness, or W3 ePowrReverser Wiring Harness, or W4
eHydro Wiring Harness

S2-Seat Switch

S4-Park Brake Switch

S5-Rear PTO Switch

K14-Mid PTO Interlock Relay

and

X8-W1 Main Wiring Harness to Instrument Panel

I don't think I want to plug anything else into it. If you decide to use it you might want to up the #5 fuse to 30 amps. A 30 amp fuse would carry more current and still blow in the even of a dead short.

Hi Fred,
Last night I was doing some research online.
On here I came across your post.
My husband & I have a John Deere 4310 tractor too.
We are repairing the tractor. We bought it at a mahindra dealer, the tractor was flooded.
we also came across the same exact wire as you.

This is the RED 562C. it's near the clutch pedal.
The function of the wire is for cruise control & it's for the diverter valve

I can send you a PM with a copy of the service manual if you like.

Bonnie
