That's the reason people don't move to the country. In February we had a couple feet of heavy, wet snow that brought down trees across the county road. By 8:00 the next morning a crew of neighbors was at work with tractors and chainsaws clearing the road, which was open again by 10 AM. It was the next day before county public works even drove out to take a look at it. Then they sent out a snowplow, that blocked everyone's driveway, so out came the tractors again to clean up their mess.

In many instances downed trees across roads also involve downed live wires which prevents anything being done until the utility company is on the scene...

This couple was definitely out of place... they reported hearing gunshots, wanted to know why the county did not have rural trash collection and proper recycling... the neighbors kept a couple of cows for meat and they called when one was slaughtered...

The owner told the Sheriff... I don't know why there are upset as I offered them a couple of steaks...

Why are country folks so independent? They maintain their own homes, mow their own yards, pump their own water, cut their own firewood, dispose of their own trash, raise most of their own food, fix their own fences and a lot of them maintain their own roads. They drive pickup trucks, eat beef, drink beer and most go to church on Sunday.

In this case there was a regional power outage. Bonneville Power blew a substation, so everything was dead. Also, in many cases you can just shove the wires out of the way with the front loader, particularly if there are poles down.

Best be careful homer. I work at a utility and I aint touching down wire fer sheet. Unless I see ALL the open devices isolating it. Then I'm wearing primary gloves unless its tested.

Cause we can't afford to pay others to do what we are able

Even if the substation is down all that it takes is one person with an improperly installed generator backfeeding through the lines. When it comes to power lines I'm not about to mess with them.
