Even if the substation is down all that it takes is one person with an improperly installed generator backfeeding through the lines. When it comes to power lines I'm not about to mess with them.

Speaking of generators, I saw one drug tent in Seattle with a generator. I wonder where the guy was getting his fuel. :shocked:

This couple was definitely out of place... they reported hearing gunshots, wanted to know why the county did not have rural trash collection and proper recycling... the neighbors kept a couple of cows for meat and they called when one was slaughtered...

The owner told the Sheriff... I don't know why there are upset as I offered them a couple of steaks...

That right there is sooo funny. Bet that shocked the heck out of city people.

When we timbered our land, at least one neighbor called the sheriff. :confused3::shocked::laughing::laughing::laughing: Sad something to the affect that we could not use the public road to move the timber. :laughing::laughing::laughing:

A deputy did respond to the call and talked to the loggers. I bet they had a good laugh about the compliant and likely had a fun talking about what they used to do in school, what the family has been up too, etc.

Unfortunately, more and more of these people are moving into the county. They already have a critical mass of voters, a bunch of them are just modern day carpet baggers, and I suspect we will sell off everything at some point and leave. One of the things they are planning to do is require a permit to cut down a tree. I think this is the case of the nearby town and we will be assimilated by the town at some point.

Yep... a permit at the cost of several hundred dollars, mail notification and period for public comment is required to remove a tree... even an old fruit tree you planted in the backyard... the permit use to be about $80 but the city said with staff costs it was losing money so now it is several hundred... ever wonder why so many are leaving dangerous/dying trees waiting for nature to act?

A few years back Mom was in her back yard with a pick, shovel and wheelbarrow making a trail behind the house... it was kind of steep in one section and she wanted to level it out for the grandchildren...

Sure enough two Oakland Police cars pulled up to ask what she was doing on public lands??? A concerned citizen made a complaint of illegal excavation on parkland...

This is the stupid stuff of city living when your home isn't cookie cutter... all of Mom's neighbors have city lots... Mom's backyard is measured in acres... anyway... Mom had to go to the house and produce ID for the police who said they would look into it... similar has happened to me... God help you if you show up with a backhoe... or worse a dozer that I had to bring in under cover of darkness!!!

Ok. You know the front loader is conductive? Unless yours is fiberglass. I'm not angry and I dont think I'm smarter. I'm just saying to be careful. I wouldn't touch a down neutral or severed pole ground. My buddy did and it zapped him. 600v on it, we measured it afterwards. Induced voltage b/c it wasn't grounded, got hit by a car and broke.

The only thing I would do near a downed power line is take small steps away from it and let the utility company deal with it. Small steps are in case you are on hot soil, taking small steps reduces the possible electric potential from one foot to another. Shuffle alway basically. Leave it for the professionals.
