I can't be the only one who thinks tipping big trees over is kinda fun. Dunno what it is...just something about that crash!

It is also the bounce and flex in something that size that impresses me. Depending on the shape and type ground it is landing on and the tree, I have seen them bounce up and flex a lot.

My neighbor is giving me these 3 dead standing trees, the largest is about 4 ft at the base. They are close to the property line and fallen my way the tops will drop onto my property. If I do not cut them they could fall across my easement road (my easement is across their property). The prevailing winds almost always blow towards the easement so I better be proactive. I am already up my eyeballs in firewood but this way I might be able to take next winter off.

How long have these trees been dead? Maybe they can sawed into some lumber then you can build that building you always wanted to, for storing lumber.

I think the big one and one of the smaller ones about two years. But the third for quite a while, it has a number of woodpecker nest holes in it and is not worth anything. As for a building for storing lumber, that must be a different member, but it is a good idea if I wanted that.

Still getting the paths around my property ready for the spring. Ground is nice and soft so now is the time to get them done.

Here's the video if you are curious:

It's woodpecker nesting habitat. That's worth something, just not directly in human usable products. You could leave it for the woodpeckers. If it falls that's good- you don't have to fell it.

Truer words...I have left a some solid but woodpecked dead hardwood for just that purpose.
There are plenty of other trees to cut for firewood.

Douglas Fir is excellent wood for many things...it has a natural high resistance to rot and is often used in the marine industry...marine grade plywood is often made from DF veneer...

Douglas fir plywood can be left exposed unfinished and it will hold up as good or better than treated plywood...

Douglas fir is very stable and is widely used for making wood doors and jambs etc...

 pretty much what grows around here, and is very prolific . . .
