it shut itself off, nothing i did made any difference whatsoever. I'm guessing it ran out of oil

Will it start back up or at least rollover and is the engine oil level showing on the dip stick

You have to pull the intake. If it has oil in it, remove the crankcase vent hose from the intake and just leave it disconnected. Then if it start up and runs fine, it was indeed running on blow-by. If it still goes right to full throttle, then the IP must be at fault.

sually if an engine runs away when it shuts down it is to late as it blows up or seizes up. I have seen 3 of them run away and we saved one but the other 2 were junk, one had a big hole in the block. But these were Detroit diesels. As was suggested I think it is the IP something has gone bad inside. Check on the side of the pump and there should be a tag with the make and model number. Mine had a Bosch and it started leaking. Parts for the one I had were very hard to find. My engine was a 32 HP Iseki 3 cyl . I bought the tractor new in 1989 and it was a very good tractor but parts were getting hard to get. It was a lot better tractor than the Kubota that I have now

A fuel rack thats not closing all the way can possibly do this. I have seen it on other diesel equipment. I would also find out where that oil is coming from thats blowing around on the engine.

Does it have a crank case blow by tube? If it does check to see if its blowing a ton of air out. If it returns to the intake i would remove it.

Once an engine gets to turning so fast, the oil doesn't have time to get "wiped" back into the pan..
& is actually forced on top of the piston.. & it burns like fuel and comes out the exhaust..
Your problem lays either within the inj. pump/governor{stuck rack/broken gov. spring} or with the engine itself.. worn out rings, picking up/allowing oil on top of pistons.
OR could be something as simple as a clogged blow-by tube.. reburning the engines blow-by..meant to escape to the outside. But then again, that would mean a worn out engine.

What color smoke is the exhaust at runaway? Blue? Black?

I don't know how Iseki's are designed but my Mitsubishi ran away when I lost the seal on the hydraulic pump shaft. Its pump is gear driven off the front of the engine and it filled the front case with hydraulic oil and thus made it's way to the top end. Only way to shut it down was choke the air intake.
