Each day I add more penetrating oil and give it more whacks. Kinda feel like the old axiom of insanity, by doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results. Lol

In cases where soaking them isn't doing it, I pull them apart,
Hook one end to something solid, and pull with your tractor...

Well that requires getting if off the mower. Will look at the shear pin. Also will have to hook it between tractor and my truck I guess. No dozer handy. Lol

Plan B is a new shaft, which is under $200. You can get a new shaft with fresh bearings, yokes & hardware at any farm store.
I've pulled a few apart with the impliment chained to a truck sucessfully. Just replaced a few rather than mess with them as well.
There should be a set screw that holds the PTO shaft to the gearbox but let's them spin seperately after the sheer pin breaks. It rides in a groove on the gearbox input shaft & keeps the shaft from flying all over. The snap ring you mentioned might serve the same purpose.

Doesn't anybody grease those two piece PTO drive shafts periodically so that they don't seize together? I have never had that issue. A good coating of any type of grease will prevent that problem.
Although, I could see that situation when purchasing used equipment that has been sitting around for years without any maintenance from the previous owner.

This was from a neighbor, and he seems to just let stuff sit for years when he no longer needs or wants it. Good news for me, is he gives it to me free:thumbsup:

He gave me a Honda quad a few years back. Brakes were rusted locked, carb messed up and in rough shape outside.
Its been running fine for me now almost 3 years. I doubt I have $50 in it. I do stuff for him, like rebuild the carbs on various power equipment he has, stuff like that.
Its been a symbiotic relationship. They are good neighbors.

Well I unhooked it from the tractor, and tried chaining it to the tractor, and pulling with my truck at the other end. No go. Got to thinking this wasn't the smartest setup. Might rip something off the tractor before this thing comes apart.
The chains were wrapped around the shaft right against the yoke. I moved the mower over in front of a 40" oak tree, and chained one end of the shaft to the tree, and let the shaft hang down. Just about emptied the can of penetrating oil into it, and tomorrow will give it another go, with the truck pulling against the tree this time.
The truck is my 3/4 ton diesel, so if it is going to come apart, this SHOULD do it.
