Hi, I have been looking to possibly purchase a New Holland T4.75 cab tractor. I was wondering if anyone had any experience with the 24mph transmissions? I currently have a T4030 with a 12x12 20mph transmission. I am comfortable with the gearing and what gears to use in certain scenarios such as baling heavy hay vs light hay, tedding, brush hogging steep ground, etc.. I do travel to another farm approximately 15 miles one way, a couple times a year. There is only about a 5 mile stretch that is highway where you could entertain traveling 24 mph, otherwise you can only hit 20 mph in a few places.
My question is; is the gearing completely different or is it pretty much just high range where the difference is? Would the extra speed really be a benefit or not? The reason I am asking is, my dealer has located a tractor with the exact options that I want except the transmission is the 24mph one. The price is good I believe. I just don't know if I should let it be a deal breaker or not. I would rarely ever go over 20mph as 20 can get squirrelly if the road isn't perfectly smooth, but it would be sweet if you ever needed it. I'm confused lol.
Thanks in advance,
Mike
