Anyone else favor older tractors to newer ones?

It really depends what you consider old. In the past I owned a Minneapolis moline M5 and Dad had a Farmall M. While they are neat old tractors and quite reliable they were not fun to operate and had zero creature comforts. My tractor now is a 1980 4440 Deere. It has a cab, AC, stereo, suspension seat, pretty much anything you could want. I traded a 2006 case for the 4440 about five years ago and have no regrets. My 39 year old tractor has virtually every feature I want and is super simple and reliable. So for me something of this vintage or newer is fine. I wouldn稚 want something older.

That's how I feel about my 1984 Ford 3910. It has features my 2012 Kubota M9540 doesn't. I feel comfortable running the 3910. It's very, very dependable.

Bet that Ford 3930 will amaze with it's ability to pull a disc or other ground engaging implement and loaf along at around 1400-1600 rpm
all day long.

It has the weight - 5400lb BEFORE mounting an FEL and Low RPM torque to do work that the average new (Equivalent/ advanced) small displacement computer controlled Hydrostat tractor needs cranked up to 2600 rpm to keep moving while actually using more fuel and listening to the Hydro whine. Lots to like about a MFWD 3930

Well Done:thumbsup:

I recently bought a 1988 3910D....replaced by the later model NH 3930D for an additional tractor dodging the DEF stuff......really amazed at the differences in this CAT I or II adaptable, user's choice, as compared to my other Fords. Only had 900 hrs, $7500, super buy.

Yep. Mine's FWA. Shuttle shift 8 speed. Adjustable hydraulic speed independent from each other. Dual rear hydraulics. Lever operated park brake that locks both axles. Wet brakes. Excellent 3pt draft control. Great tractor. I've got $10,500 in mine with new clutch, starter, rebuilt front axle and new rear tires. For the money, best tractor I've ever bought.

I went from using and old Farmall Super C and Farmall M to my Mahindra Max 26xl HST, bought new in '16. Basically everything gets done faster and easier now. Especially little chores and jobs the Max is the perfect size and so easy to work with, but you can't beat the simplicity and dependability of the old tractors. I'd like to see my Max in 70 years and see how it is holding up, but I'll bet the M is still going strong if it is taken care of.

If anyone else here has ever used a "trip bucket" and loader without down pressure, like the one on our M, you'll really learn to appreciate your totally hydraulic FEL, LOL.

You haven't experienced the joy of operating an old tractor without having had your hands BLACK, from those old steering wheels.

I think I still have the spool valve for my C's loader. I will check tomorrow and if I in fact still have it, it will be up for grabs.

Good luck with that. Several years ago I offered a complete non running Super C free to any TBN member. I had a taker in Virginia, if I remember right, couldn't pull off the shipping.

It isn't like I must get rid of it, just if anyone wants it I can arrange to get it to them.

Our JD530 is very close to the IH M in size and power. It originally had a tricycle front end, but after a few years we found a wide front to replace the tricycle front. Amazingly it was a complete bolt-up swap including the power steering! It only took a couple of hours to swap front ends complete.

Then it was time to upgrade the old #46 loader which originally worked like yours with only lifting power and a trip bucket. That turned out to be pretty easy project; it just took a while. Now it has had it's power up and down as well as a nicely contollable front bucket for about 30 years. The loader itself is very powerful and no problem lifting whatever you can fit in the fairly narrow bucket. The whole loader is the Quick Detatchable type. Pull three pins and 2 hoses and just back away from it. Clever design.
