good day,

I have a deck with steel "painted" posts. The raccoons climb up and cause all sorts of trouble. Yes, I have killed them by traps. But they are getting smarter.

I want to place a "hot loop" like a halo at the top of each post. I would run the hot under the deck on insulators. Then I would ground each pole where it bolts to the concrete footing.

The question is; will the paint insulate the 'coon from ground?

paint should insulate it. could you set up a mini solar powered electric fence setup? maybe string the wires where racoon would approach

Remove whatever is attracting the raccoons...a little predator (coyote etc.) scent at the base of the posts will deter them...

Easy enough to run a ground wire next to your hot wire. Or ground a foot or so of chicken wire wrapped around the top of the post.

There are a million mouse trap videos on YouTube, so I did not search for it,, but,,
the latest is simply using a 12 volt battery, and a capacitor,, it shocks, stuns, or kills the mouse,,

If you ever put your tongue on a 9 volt battery, you know not much voltage is needed,,

maybe two 12 volt batteries in series,, 24 volts,, could be enough to stop a raccoon,,,

Wet the floor down real good before you go to bed. That will help with their experience.!!!!

Diameter of the posts?

Distance about ground?

Dirt base or something else, concrete, wood, etc.?

I have a bird feeder on a 4 x 4 wood post. Rocky was climbing it nightly. Wrapped a 24" long piece of 7" diameter Galvanized Duct pipe around the post at the ground. No more Rocky problems. They can't get a grip any more.

I have 2 feeders on 4 inch PVC pipe. Squirrels and raccoons can't climb them.

Coons are real smart, trick is to outsmart them.

Once I hung my bird feeder on the clothes line to outsmart them.
LOL, with their nimble 'hands' they , hand over hand clung to the clothes line and happily ate the bird feed.
SO.
I had a couple dozen small plastic wheels that I fed onto the clothes line to make gripping more difficult.
LOL, they could not grip those wheels as they'd simply roll and the coons would plop to the ground.

They sure are clever things.
More than once I have seen them climb onto a kin's shoulders to gain access to the trash bin.
LOL, once opened my bin to find 3 fat sleeping coons in the bottom.
Trash bin was however nice and clean.
