Buying off CL and the buyer wants cash

Weird. I have been in business for thirty years and never once asked for a deposit or made people sign years long agreements. I never got burned either. Maybe Canucks are more honest and more trusting. Just not to the Guberment. But our Guberment deserves no trust at all.

Well, Canucks do seem to be nicer than Gringos, in my experience. I have never felt the need to give or
receive a deposit either.

I once sold a JD tractor on CL, and the buyer (a very young guy who worked for some gigantic company in MtnView)
had no secure way to pay me. His only "bank" account was with eTrade, which provides checking, billpay,
and ATMs, but no cash or wire services or checks to 3rd parties. He did not see any need for traditional banking services.

He ended up buying a new one at the dealer.

Paying or recieving cash is dangerous in my opinion. I was selling a Corvette a coulple weeks ago the guy kept saying I have cash, I told him I didn't want cash. If they have the money wire it, it's easy and only costs about $20 same day.

I don't really like handling CASH either. But the day is soon coming that there won't be any, anymore. That is for certain, I think. Then, I guess it's back to woodpecker scalps.

You are correct, that day is coming. Read the Bible, no man will buy or sell without the Mark.

Think of why a government would want a cashless society...that sure would make it easier to control illegal business and to know all transactions such to regulate and or tax reasons. So bartering will become more important or common than today in many countries.

Wiring funds is a problem because you have to send the money, and wait until it is in the other bank. Takes a few days. As the buyer, you don't really have control over the item you are buying until the process is complete. With cash or a cashiers check, you hand over the payment at the same time you get your merchandise. Wiring funds is fine for the seller, but not the buyer, IMO.

There are some who don't use or like cash. There are others who use mostly cash. I think we are a long way from being a cashless society.

I wanted to eliminate the possibility that he would claim that I didn't pay him; a receipt gives me some protection from a lien or a suit in small claims court. I could just as easily written him a check. I still have the receipt, and the IRS hasn't asked me how much I paid him; so I have no idea what he reported on his income tax, if any thing.

You paid him over $600. 1099?
