Your neighbor is correct. I meant to say cyanide, which would have been more accurate than arsenic. Whatever it's called, don't try chewing on a leaf as you are dropping the tree!

There's tons more! All oaks, all 12"+ and straight.

It's an area of state land that was "select cut" by a logging company with the DNR's approval. When they took all the little trees out, there's nothing to stop a windstorm and it blew down well over a dozen of these pristine oaks. It makes me sick to my stomach to see what was once a beautiful mature hardwood area turned into a wasteland for the next 25 years with state approval, but at least it gives me more wood than I can burn!

I feel your pain. Our Canadian NewBrunswick and Nova Scotia government gives all our crown land resources to the big loggers and nothing to the small loggers. We can't compete against the free wood the big loggers get from the government. That's painful enough but then to go see the wasteland aftermath is sinful. Then they spray and kill everything but the spruce. I could go on but I won't.

That's some big wood for sure. Looks like some big old pines. There is a lot of wood in them. You have a nice spot there.

Tanks, GG. It is a 25 acre property with 400 feet of lakefront on a big lake. (Look up Kawagama Lake on Google Earth.). One of the first properties on the lake, the original buildings are about 100 years old, including that little building on the left.

So as promised, here is a pic of the final woodpile, featuring the stackers as well.

Must be 3 cords of wood there (White Pine). And here is what I think killed the 75-foot tree:

Pine Sawyer larva. Lovely boring things. When they exit they leave a hole almost as big around as a pencil. They are usually the last straw that kills a tree but tend to attack trees that are already ailing and on their way out from other problems. The adults look like this. If you have a lot of pines you have probably seen them on warm dry fall days when they emerge.

It seems like every species of tree has some form of an insect trying to kill them off lately.

Yuck! Hope they don’t get the other big White Pine that is only about 15 ft. away!

Funny story about those Beatles. I remember being terrified of them when I was a small kid. The way they would fly around, kinda drunkenly. You never new if they were going to crash into you. Anyway my dad managed to finally convince me they wouldn't hurt me despite having a most terrifying set of jaws. Many Years later, long after dad had died. I was out cutting firewood and one landed on my arm. As I was looking at it, it bit me. It bit me hard, holly crap that hurt. Anyway I glanced up at the sky and kind of had a talking to with my old man.
