I bought some New Holland paint from the dealer, and it just says to use CHN thinner. Does anyone know if you just use lacquer thinner, or is it something else?

FYI, you can buy most tractor colors in a spray can from Tractor Supply, if they are not an exact mach I could not tell the difference on my New Holland and Massey.

I think the OP is asking if the paint is lacquer, enamel, imron, or something else. I think normally they use the term reducer with enamel.

It is most likely alcyd enamel. You can thin with naptha (slow) or mineral spirits (really slow). You can also use enamel hardener, to speed up the cure. Keep in mind that the hardener has isocyanates. You should spray it in a properly ventilated paint boot or outdoors. AND, you should wear a respirator designed for isos.

I picked up the naphtha today. I don’t have a proper setup so I'm going to do without the hardener. Thanks for the help.

I have a bush hog finish mower that I had to tear down, so I figured I would do the por15 underneath and New Holland blue on top. I like how the por15 turned out. We will see how it holds up.

This will be my first time trying an hvlp spray gun, so this should be interesting.

With all the other projects I have going on, I’m questioning how I came to the conclusion that this was a good idea right now, lol. I should have just done the por15 underneath and called it good, but too late now.

I don't expect that you'll be very happy with the POR15 in the long run. It is an overpriced miracle product that will flake off and hold moisture against the metal once it is violated.

CHN is cyclohexanone.. there must be a good reason the dealer said to use that..

I have never heard 1 good thing about POR15 from people who have used it no better than rustoleum. Buy the way rustoleum nh blue matches my 01 tc 29d exactly. It is amazing I sanded chips and scratches on the loader arms rolled rusty metal primer then top coated whith NH blue You cant tell where old starts and new stops blends perfect.:cool2: Fine nap hotdog roller works great.:drink:

I Just did some sheetmetal rework on the 3910. I bought the TSC Ford Blue and it's Premium paint and goes on like it. Really a smooth finish, as good as factory I'd say, no brag, just fact......different spray nozzle, very fine mist, read the directions on the can as it sprays different than the old cans. Color is the third Ford Blue, similar but seemingly slightly darker than the original 000 series blue of the early '60's, not the mid '60's "aqua" tinted blue. No way would I fuss with a spray gun when you can get results like this from a rattle can.

For longevity, i painted the 2000 when I bought it some 20ish years ago, kept it under a shed roof. Will shine up just like new. If you leave your equipment out in the weather than I can't help you with how it holds up to that.

TSC near me carries both Rustoleum and Majic brands in Ford Blue. Which did you use? I noticed they carry the Majic in 2 different colors: Ford Blue, and New Ford NH Blue.
