That removable wedge was designed to split wood in two directions each stroke,,

The top splits off first, then the bottom piece is split in half,,,

Since the splitter is only splitting in one direction at a time, the splitter has an easier time splitting twice per stroke,,

The wedge can be removed, then the other insert can be installed, the machine is then a hydraulic press,,,

Very cool, nice design and build. You ought to build sell them...

Yea, I built it,, the design is mostly to allow the machine to live in the shed, and take up VERY little space,,

There is not a thread,, would you settle for a video??

And that is the way it should be !!

I like to split in the sun. After a long winter the sun feels really good this time of year. My stack ends up in a sunny spot to air dry for 3 months or so then gets moved into the wood shed where it continues drying for another year before I burn it. If it were July I would be looking for some shade Like you.

Well my May might be like your July, 80s here already.. had a couple 90s even..

What I split now I'll burn next winter, but that's not till October or November.. it'll be plenty dry by then.

We went a couple years without a wood stove but after getting reamed by the propane industry I installed a freestander last October didn't even start on my firewood till September... needless to say that stuff wasn't completely dry but we made it work, saved over $1500 in propane just last year!!!

Thanks, And I finished filling the second one today, need to build a couple more...

But first I need to mill up some more 12 foot 2x4s and put roofs on them also..

So I milled up some more 12' 2x4's so I can build a couple more racks and put the roofs on!







And I wish I knew why all of a sudden my pics are so big, they didn't used to be and I didn't do anything different! Sorry.

Hunt looking at your mill made me think about my log "table" I just built.
I know there's no tractor in the pic but I do load full logs on it with the tractor.:thumbsup:

I've been wanting to make something like this for a while and finally did last month as the snow melt kept my wood area a soggy mess.
It's nice to keep the wood and saw out of the mud, and me from being bent over. It's also a plus to have the log near waist height already, I just spin around to put it on the splitter then to a waiting wood rack where it will stay until I carry the whole rack to the house cutting my handling down to a bare minimum. The rough cut lumber was just under $100.
These are the racks below.

I have a dozen of them but I'd like to get up to 20 or so to have several years of wood, half of them drying and the other half ready for that year.
They stack nice when folded up.
