I would not fault the Deere dealer. It's a bargaining process. So he sharpened his pencil a bit. As a business owner, there is the profit I would like to make and maybe should make, but sometimes if push comes to shove, I have offered and accepted less. No sense cutting off ones nose despite ones face. Business should be flexible.

Not how I do business.

If I ask for your best and final offer, I expect you to give me your best and final offer.

In this case, I was a repeat customer, having bought a new 26G excavator from him about seven months prior. His offer seemed high, so I went across the street and got a better deal.

Good for you. I’m the same way.

I guess I would do business in any way that serves ME the best in the end. I would, without a doubt express my opinions though.

A friend has one of those ubiquitous 1840 CASE machines with the Cummins. Basic and reliable.

All that modern computer stuff in the Skid Loaders is just so much pain and expense waiting to happen. The worst thing is, there is virtually nothing that you can usually do yourself. You are at the dealers mercy.
I also hate too much technology on skid steers. For some reason it doesn’t bother me on tractors or cars.
It really sucks when something quits when you have the boom up in the air blocking the door:laughing:

What sucks is any SSL or CTL that traps you in the cab unless the boom is fully lowered.

The outward hinge doors are awful. I’d probably take it off the hinges and go doorless if I owned one of those.

Mine is a Gehl labeled Takeuchi with that awful door. It was a dealer installed cab rather than factory. Takeuchi's model that year had a door that slid up just below the cab ceiling like a garage door. I didn't know any better...

The other problem is an oversized step plate on the loader torsion bar that blocks the view when changing implements.

Otherwise, a great CTL.

My old Deerewas all mechanical, and served me well for ten years. The new Case is so much quieter, easier to operate, has a stereo, and both the heater and air conditioner work great.

It’s a whole different operating environment.

Best part is no more snow dumped on my feet, disabling the foot controls.

The door is a little bit of a pita because of the lower lip or sealing flange, which is a sort of trip point when entering or exiting the cab. I am not as nimble as I used to be.

I don’t think a door that slides up is a much better solution than a hinged door, though. Some Deere products had them, but switched to a conventional door, and all of the backhoes I have seen with overhead rear doors have broken linkages.

If I get trapped, the rear window removable and is set up as an emergency escape route. Not convenient, but not the end of the world.

I think the JCB CTL with the single arm has a side door. That would be a superior concept to the overhead door.
