Hello from Nome, Alaska

Welcome! I watched the long video on the MH line.....interesting. Small but powerful dozer with lots of attachments. Keep us informed on how you plan on wearing some of the yellow paint off! Are you getting the loader, 3 point/pto, back hoe, dozer blade, etc? The down pressure on the 3pt is interesting.

I have ordered mine with the six way blade, three point hitch and PTO. I have a 48 inch rotary cutter ordered to mount on the three point hitch. My first project is mowing down dense willows on my one acre lot outside of Nome, then pushing dirt to fill in my lot for a shop and eventually a small house. I'm not real fond of snow peas, so maybe I'll try pineapples??

Welcome Marty. I lusted after a Struck for years but finally settled on a tractor. I certainly hope it is a little Beast and will work well for you. Photos are a must!

I assume that Oosik DOES know exactly what the name means.
I believe he spent much of his working life in Alaska.

Marty - about a year ago one of the more curious TBN'ers couldn't withhold his curiosity any longer. I explained, in what I hope were family friendly terms, what an OOSIK is.

I was in Alaska from 1960 to 1982. 1960 to 1970 being the "good years". Then with the coming of oil & money - here came the politicians.

When I left Alaska - I was given an Oosik - made into a cribbage board. Carved and with all the native scrimshaw. It is one of my most valued possessions.

When I heard that you were getting a Struck Magnatrac - I had visions of your going for Bering sea gold. Just not too many tomatoes or corn grown up in your neck of the woods.

I never caught gold fever, I worked for Alaska Gold Co. in Nome from 1978 to 1998 in the thaw fields, on both bucket line dredges and in the shop. A gold mine is just a hole in the ground you pour money into! I may just start an Ice Worm farm!!:laughing:

Passed through Nome once in '71 (I think) on the way to Kotzebue. Did a tourist bit of panning and got one small 'nugget' about the size of a grain coarse ground pepper. OK, twice since we had to get back from there to the world.

I'd imagine both places are quite different now.

I think the only thing you would recognize now is the Nugget Inn hotel on Front street. I first came to Nome January 21, 1971 when I was in junior high school, never got around to leaving.
