226D Won't Move

Very puzzling that loader and 3 point are slow and powershift is slow. Both unrelated pumps. Sure point toward dirty fluid or strainer/filter. Although the power shift fluid does not go through the spin on filter. The powershift fluid does go through the strainer. Trouble shooting section also lists a possible cause as damaged O-rings for suction pipe.

It is puzzling because they are separate pumps. I agree, maybe your screen became clogged after you changed the fluid, could have been some sediment in the bottom of the tractor and the new fluid got it moving again and plugged the screen.

Carey I know what you are saying. I figured if the valve is bad or plugged that would be a sure way to tell.

I would do some more checking before I split the tractor. Just a thought.

On my first Hyd. fluid change the very last of the fluid was pretty thick. Looked almost like a milk shake if not worse it was so thick. And then the screen. It was more or less my best interest just to replace it was so bad. Which I did,I'm not kidding either. Bent up even and clogged with a extra thick slime I was soaking it in gas to get it off. I could almost say comparing it to the new one someone replaced just the screen at some point. What made that evident was a Brass looking welded seam and being bent up!!. I then actually attached a piece of a SOS pad to a cloth hanger and then ran some of the cleaner fluid back though it to see if any more thick S_ _ _ came out. Nothing much came out and I honestly thought I was going to have to pull the pan. I'm not power shift but that's why I said to clean the Trans pickup. I would pull the pan and check the pickup screen to the power shift before I would do a split. MO. also.........

Am I missing something? The original poster's problem still sounds like what we see so often when that cleanable screen filter is clogged. Some Yanmars do have several hydraulic pumps, but they all pull fluid through that screen from a common sump.

Just for fun - I found an old photo. If your hydraulic 'strainer' looks like this, you might want to clean it.

What really happened: When I bought the YM240 I replaced its fluids and filters. I couldn't get this hydraulic strainer out intact. Some previous bozo had used the wrong o-ring (at the shoulder just before the mesh) which was both far too fat (note the dent on the near side of the shoulder), and made of the wrong material so it had oozed and turned into adhesive over the years. I have since cleaned the replacement screen twice, I found it far cleaner than this.

And I thought mine was bad . It was dirtier I believe been quite a few Yrs., over 10 atleast. Looking good now at the seam on the screen there's not much doubt IMO. it was replaced. They all do pull from a common sump but The Power Shift is no were near that big of a screen on the Valve Body. 1/10 the size Which I knew that. And then the bozo factor may have played in also. Seen it twice Cali's. and mine. So If it was mine I would have to go there on the power shift . It doesn't require no were near as much fluid so not much has to pass from the sump to it. Only been a few days and it doesn't take much to check it so hope we hear something and it's not a split which I just don't think that going to be needed.

That's a good testimony to the need for a replaceable "crud" filter in any hydraulic tank in any tractor.

# 12 reply was actually first. I think there may have been a Bozo factor getting taking it out also . A o-ring holding it.

My Yanmar 226D moves extremely slowly. the FEL and 3PH work but are also very slow. The PTO seems to spin just fine. I should mention that the gasket between the transmission case and rear axle case leaks hydraulic fluid. Tractor moves better when hydraulic fluid level is very high. If I just add enough so that it stays in the dipstick's hashed area, the FEL works barely but the tractor will not move at all.

I have read every post I can find online that has anything to do with this problem and researched quite a bit in the service manual.

Here is what I have tried so far:

-drained hydraulic/transmission fluid and refilled with new fluid
-removed and cleaned hydraulic screen filter
-replaced hydraulic cartridge filter
-removed and checked main relief valve and delay relief valves (both springs are 1mm shorter than specs)
-put pressure gauge on hydraulic test port on regulator case and started the tractor, put it in every gear, released the clutch. It did not show any pressure at all. Ever. Zero.

Still not working.

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Fill to the TOP of the dipstick's hashed area with the stick just sitting on the threads.

Nope your not missing anything.. I have stated twice that he should change his fluid again because the screen is probably clogged again. We just got off on other theories like every other thread. :)

looking at the lines on my 226d the pipe comes from the screen filter to the spin on filter & pump.
so all the fluid goes threw both filters.
