An easier way to refuel your tractor

/ An easier way to refuel your tractor #121
This thread brings back memories of filling our farm tractors back in the 50's. We had a dozen or so 5-gallon cans that originally were filled with lube oil. We would fill them in the back of the '47 dodge pickup with diesel from the overhead bulk storage tank and take them to the field in the morning or after lunch.
It was about all I could do as a 90 pound (on a good day) kid to get them up to the top of the tractor, put the funnel in and then pour. A windy day presented another challenge as the wind would blow the fuel away before it had a chance to get in the funnel. Had to try to hold one hand to break the wind and the other to pour. Yes, the "good ol' days". :)

I still use a 5 gal. CO-OP can like that. With a 10 gal. cream can filled with drip gas from the refinery that cost $0.06 / gal. we backed the pick-up truck up to the tractor and poured into the big funnel on those windy days not far from you.

"Drip Gas" ? What's that ?

That's interesting, thank a lot for that link.

I have a drip pipe on my natural gas line in my house..... I wonder if I should be opening it up and getting some free fuel ?

JK !!!!!!!

Only if you don't have cops that are familiar with the exhaust smell and you know how to ****** timing and mix it so it doesn't melt the pistons.

Refilled my 30 gal fuel barrel today with ORF, got 28.983 at $2.899/gal, but the fuel pump dial said 30 gal. Something is out of sink, probably because of using a new register with a 40 year old fuel pump, the short of it came to $84.02, one reason why I didn't want a bigger fuel barrel.

This time I took couple pictures, my son got a newer truck last year and we forgot how what went where from the last time, we spent a hour rethinking the procedure so's to do a minimal of man handling on a full barrel and not run my forks into his taillights. One thing I cant stand is rethinking something, it hurts.

Worse is re-doing something. I swear, everything around here is on at least revision 2.0.

I once worked on a project where the 2nd level manager had a sign on his desk reading "There is never enough time to do it right the first time but there is always time to do it over". Pretty funny given he was pushing the schedule to the point that the project could not be done right the first time.

I like the tire pressure wrote on the hand truck. I got my crap marked up too. If I have to get on my knees to hunt for tire pressure, it requires a flashlight and sometimes I spit on my finger and "paint" the sidewall to make it easier to read. :ashamed:

Hey Oldpath ---- What is that contraption you have on the far right hand side of yer Shed, mounted on the outside wall about halfway up?

Here's my fuel setup nothing fancy and it's all got a lot of years on it,
the low tank with the hand pump is the winter fuel tank,
the high gravity fill is summer fuel.
The tank and stand is over 60years old, the grade level tank is going on 40,
One was my grandfathers and one is just a used one I picked with the pump for $50.
