How long have you owned tractor & was it purchased used? If purchased used parts in trans could be from previous repair. Does trans make any unusual noises?

Funniest thing I heard or read all week. That痴 a great theory you have there. It works IF you roll the wheel away and back EXACTLY the same distance. To the inch or less.

Laugh if U will but I have done it!
I rolled it forward leaned it against the front end and then back after I finished what I had to do.
Oh, I recall now, had to replace the lower 3 point bar/rod on my Mitsubishi that the arms pivot on.
(that's the second time I broke that 'pivot rod', (snow blowing stresses that pivot shaft))
Only one wheel was removed for access so everything lined up just fine.
Also my rears are loaded so carefully was the rule.
Heck since my hydraulic jack holds well I did not even need to adjust vertically either. Just a bit of wiggle wiggle did the trick.

Jim I've had it for 5 years. Got it used. Low hours but undoubtedly abused by a construction owner. Had a monster dent in the hood and other cosmetic flaws but ran like a top (for the most part) did run a little hot one day for unknown reason but I didn't continue running it and no signs of trouble since. Seems it's always ran slightly hotter than I would like but I do mostly bush hog. And no, I haven't hit anything big that I can remember to rupture anything. And no, no noises at all. Actually, before I turned it off I had my son on the tractor with me showing him how to drive it and work the hydraulics. Never no issues except saw the white hydro fluid. Until I changed the fluid/filters.
All the metal was at the filters, so I would think if I split it, I would need to split it on the PTO side instead of the clutch side. I've looked all over the world wide web today to still come up dry on where it could have came from. It will be a couple weeks until I can tear into it so I still have plenty of time to study

Back when I was young and dumb I removed more loaded 16.9 x 28 and 16.9 x30 left rear tires from New Holland TN tractors than I care to remember. That is how the transmission control valve is accessed. By myself and using a bottle jack, impact wrench and a couple appropriate sized and shaped bars to align the lugs. I don’t recall many that rolled back and lined up perfectly. I very nearly lost one on a patch of ice one day and that was the end of that.
