Squirrel cage fan wiring

I don't see a blue wire. Orange is common, black is high, yellow is medium and red is low speed. If fan seems to be going too slow , check the capacitor. The intake or exhaust on the blower must be partially restricted to keep the motor from freewheeling and overheating because it is designed to have some back pressure on the exhaust.

If you look at the wires on the motor, the wire that is labeled as yellow on the diagram appears to actually be blue on the fan motor.
On the section of the schematic for high-speed, it appears that they have the yellow (actually blue) and the red wires connected together with the incoming hot wire (which would be black on the wire from the cord).

Evidently you and I see the schematic differently. From 38 years of air conditioning experience I can tell you that if you connect up two different speeds of a motor to the line at once, you will burn up the motor almost immediately.

I did hook up the two wires...I was hesitant about it. It turned on but I had to use my hand to start the blade to turn. It was a very low speed.

I unhooked it and put the black wire back on.

Still isn't going to work to cool the whole shop. Maybe just for wood dust, etc.

Thanks everyone

This may be a dumb question but, you are hooking up at 240 volt, right?

No, regular household. Everyone says these squrriel cages do not run 240. It is only the compressor that does.

Here is the schematic that I am looking at:
attachment.php

Looking in the red box (labeled as "HIGH SPEED-COOLING LOW OR MEDIUM-HEATING") it appears to show the 2nd and 3rd "unused" serminals connected together and tied through the #1 connector, through a NC contact and to the #7 contact.
Perhaps I am misreading it?

Is the diagram not on the side of the unit? Maybe it's a two speed motor running slow.

And I used the wiring diagram in the lower left corner above the description box where B-3 is noted as the motor blower. The wires coming in are clearly marked L1 and L2 and the schematic has the wires connecting to the motor blower (B-3).
