I read that Chevy trucks increase revenue $5800 each over the "model" that they replaced. It doesn't say $5800 increase over a previous pickup model - just "model". That could mean to mean $5800 over some other Chevrolet car model. He just doesn't make that clear...

It is true that pickup prices are outrageously high. I recall that my last new pickup, a 1978 F150, special ordered with a pile of go-fast goodies, was $7800 out the door. Today that same truck would be near $60K. Considering the vast improvements and the vast array of options though, including labor costs, and the fact that they now replace the need for 2 vehicles (a car for the family and a truck for hauling), they're still a pretty good value. IMHO.

I disagree. The $7800 truck you bought in 1978 would be equivalent to about $30,000 in today’s dollars with inflation. You can certainly buy a truck of similar, if not much more optioned for $30k. I’m talking single cab, 2wd, no pwr windows locks etc. It was probably a std shift as well.

And double the mileage the square body GM trucks, Dodge and Ford of the same era got.

Gas guzzling? Most of the guys at work have 1/2 ton 4x4s and most of the newer ones are getting 20-25MPG, that is as good as my 2008 Taurus X or any of the "medium" or large SUVs.

Fueled my gas-guzzling 2016 F150 4x4 supercab with the 3.5L Ecoboost engine up this morning. 646 miles since I filled it last - and it could still safely go another 119 miles. Hand calculated it worked out to 22.4 mpg. The truck is always hauling something - if only my Yamaha Kodiak - in the back. Can't haul much in a car!

Those ecoboosts are impressive - id love a 2.7, but in a long bed.

Ford announced that they are dropping a few cars and adding capacity for trucks

Americans love their gas guzzling 4x4's

And that is true, but there is a small population where owing a gas/diesel guzzling truck is a necessity for our equipment.....lol.....other wise I'd be driving my mini prius 1/4 ton pick up.......:laughing:

Ford is phasing out all cars except for the Mustang and something called a Focus Focus Active, which is a Focus hatchback with a suspension lift; I'd guess it's to compete with the Subaru Crosstrek.



My 2015 Sierra 1500 with the 5.3L motor gets 24-26mpg on the highway during the summer. Since I've owned it I've averaged about 21-22mpg overall, which is pretty good for a big barn door of a vehicle. I don't tow too often, else my mileage would be lower.

Our son just bought a 2018 Sierra 4x4 same set up and that's the mpg he's getting....I'm jealous....lol.....
cause I despise the ego-boost engine, and the MDS system of the other brand.
But have no choice but to drive Goldie when I have too. otherwise it's the wife's 4Rnr....ha.....

Here's what a 2.7 EB F150 can do for ya.... '18 4x4 Supercrew w/3.55 gears. Also runs a 5.8 0-60. :D

Thats what my Volvo 2.5 TDI does with a 5000 pound trailer. Commuting empty, i get 50mpg.

But anyways, 25mpg is pretty nice for a 2.5 ton vehicle with 4wd and a huge frontal surface...

I think the moniker "gas-guzzler" would no longer apply to today's pickup trucks including 3/4 and 1-ton pickups. I remember the MPGs my 1986 Suburban got, 12 to 13 MPGs. Now I'm seeing 17 to 19 in my 1/2 ton and a few MPGs higher in my 1-ton diesel pickup.
