A friend brought their 5100 out to our lake lot and it is dripping pretty constantly from a plug located about dead center of the tractor approximately 16in from the back of the oil pan. This plug has some sort of stem that you can push up and down. When pushed up the drip stops. What are we dealing with? Thanks

On the L3400 it is called the “Split Pin Plug”.... for draining clutch housing water....

The pin rattles around to prevent & clear obstructions. If noticable fluid is comming out of it there is a problem. If its black, you have a rear main seal leak on the engine. If its reasonably clear your input shaft seal on the teanny is leaking. You need to split the tractor to replace the tranny seal. Likely need to split for the engine rear main seal. If there is much oil in there you'll need to replace a contaminated clutch disk.
