Back in the early 1980's, a neighbor had a 3/4 ton Chevy 2WD pickup,, he had put a John Deere 4 cylinder tractor engine in it.
He claimed it would get over 50MPG,, but would only go about 45MPH tops,,

He hauled farm supplies with it,, and pretty much only used it for that.
It was a beautiful conversion,,

I think he really did the conversion because he used off road diesel,, which at the time,, was WAY cheaper fuel.
and no one really looked at which fuel was used in a pickup with farm use tags,,,

Its becoming a popular swap in jeeps and other off road rigs. Folks are getting kubota engines from reefer units for cheap, and converting them for trucks etc.

I would love owning something like that.

What is the name of this show? I would've gone there and checked it out!

Chuck, This was the Mexico Car Show at the VFW. Its a once a year show currently in its 9th year. See attached show schedule.

Probably. It’s a 4 cylinder so it’ll be upwards of 30. Equipment engines don’t make good car engines. A car engine in equipment swap would be even worse. There’s a huge difference in the continuous duty hp equipment has and the very brief HP cars and light trucks have.

I kind of disagree with that.

For example, the engine in my '07 F150 is the 4.2l V6, which is used as an industrial engine. Ford Power Products lists it as the ESG-642. Likewise with the Ford Triton 6.8l V10, which Ford Power Products lists as the ESG-1068. Both are used on gensets, water pumps, and even forklifts.

Same goes for the 2.4l i4 GEMA World engine my Jeep Compass, BUT they don't have it "as" sophisticated, unlike the other two mentioned above. Some options even add a turbo to it. They use this engine for a lot of gensets.
